mollybot rules !

mollybot rules !

Daughter has posted about an animal relief group that Japanese son
"sleepytako" told us about.
To help support this group and bring it to the attention of more
people she offered a small animal painting for a minimal donation.
She makes absolutely no money from this. She is footing all of the
supplies and time.
She also shows you how to donate on PayPal to change over from
Japanese to English.

Well her little blog has raised over $600 dollars.

OMG ! Donations have come from all over and just to show how big
peoples hearts are, she just received a donation from Australia !

If you click on her blog, on my side bar, you will see her blog and
more of the paintings she has done. The Square Dogs had to remind her
that Scotties love to help too, so she finally painted a Scottie !
about time they woofed !
I will have to donate again just to get that painting !

astounded. . . parsnip
music. . . Lucky To Know You, Blue Merle

Yes, my mollybot . . . I am lucky to know you !

On a side note,

ShelterBox based in Cornwall UK is a relief group I just found out about.
They have several International affiliates.
Japanese authorities have requested ShelterBoxes, and you can track
your box, how wonderful is that !

  1. I think part of the problem is the transport issues are being sorted out. The IRC has to work with the military --who by and large just got in the other day, in order to get supplies and heavy equipment in.

But I share your concerns. Even this new coalition of the 3 other animal groups. They've raised an extraordinary amount of money, and I can only hope they manage it wisely. Remember 9/11 and how much of it ended up being wasted?

  2. Kanani...
It is not so much the logistics, it is the way they use the money ? and the high cost of operating the "Business". I know you have to have operating money but I want to make sure that more goes for help and less to the "Red Cross"
I remember a big shake up years ago so maybe that is why I am a little cautious. But as I say that I did make a donation to the Red Cross.
I really only donate to the USO and the Animal Shelter anymore.

  3. That is very interesting. Our church always takes special offerings and we send the money straight to Red Cross thinking it is safe. I wll have to look into it more thoroughly. I thought it was safe.

  4. Carole...
    I am probably wrong
but I do want to check into it. I think the strange reporting of Sandra's donation made me think " how much are they sending and how much is going into a general fund ?"

I am not saying they don't come and help. When my home burned down in one of the huge California wild fires, 1993, the Red Cross where there and the volunteers where there to help us search through our burned homes... gave us shovels and drinks. They were very nice and helpful and I loved the help they gave us.

So I want to get an accounting of how much of my donation went for relief and how much goes for operating expenses.
Now I know they much have a huge operating expenses with planes, gas and supplies.

It is all very confusing and I think it goes back to the shake up several years ago.

That said I made a substantial donation so I guess it didn't bother me too much. I donated to the Red Cross right after I donated to the above animal relief.

    I hope I didn't upset you.

I think I will ask to see the funding report. It makes sense to know hoe your money is being spent.

  5. Aw thanks so much for posting about me! I liked your photo of your computer looking at my website! (though the photo isn't working right now, I wonder what happened) I've gotten some more donations and I had to put up more etsy listings. Though with the yen to dollar fluctuating so much I had to up the price again :/ ugh, so frustrating! Anyway, I've got some more painting to do :)

I understand your concerns about charities, I feel the same way. I tried reading up more about it on the website Charity Navigator http://www.charitynavigator.org It's a useful website but again it's hard for me not to take everything I read with a grain of salt.

  6. We have always put our trust in The Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Will pop over to Mollybot.

  7. Going to steer clear of the Charities debate tonight, as my mind not quite sharp enough.
Great to hear of so many people doing so many fantastic things to help. Go Mollybot!
