Happy Anniversary Carol !

Happy Anniversary Carol !, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

Whoo Hooo !
On Wednesday, Carol of the blog " Dry Bones " and her husband will
be married 32 years and it is also a son's Birthday too !

I have just found her blog this year :

Love the name. . .
Dry Bones kinda' mysterious.

The verse on her blog page is creepy mysterious. . .
I loved mysteries.

The photo on her blog page is very cool. . .
I love great photos.

Oh wait she wrote a murder mystery. . .
Did I say I love mysteries ?

She has a Sunday Quote every week. . .
I have favorite quotes.

She is a pastors wife. . .
Did I mention she wrote a Murder Mystery ?

She likes football. . .
I like football, Green Bay and the Bears, she doesn't like Green Bay.

She quotes Firefly. . .
I miss Firefly.

She doesn't write her ideas down, because she thinks she will remember
them but doesn't. . .
Hey I don't always sketch my ideas down because I will remember them but I
don't.

I read her back blogs so I hope I got the facts straight, only the
facts, nothing but the facts. . .
Did I say she wrote a Murder Mystery ?

So Carol. . .
above is my mysterious storm cloud hinting at danger in an ozone
fueled evening
and
here is a favorite quote I give to you. . .

"we choose our destiny every day and every day I choose a destiny of
joy"

I don't know who wrote it but I say it every morning, It is my mantra
somedays it works, somedays I blow it big time !

This post is for The Weaver of Grass

The Weaver Of Grass has had several post lately on the chickens on her
farm.
Beautiful photos of her Chickens.
One of my favorite books is " Still Life With Chickens "

I thought it funny when this showed up in my mail... More chickens !

I would love to have chickens and the coyotes would love it too !

Some Tucson Arizona Chicken facts...

You can have chickens in the City of Tucson but no roosters.
The Food Conspiracy Of Tucson will hold the third City Chicken Coop
Tour in the late Fall
Raising Chickens has surged in popularity.
In some Tucson neighborhoods, the backyard chicken coop is replacing
the backyard swimming pool.
Chicken are related to dinosaurs.
There are 400 million chickens in the United States.
Average life span of a chicken is 5 to 7 years and they can live up to
20 years.
A chickens heart beats 280-315 times a minute.
Alektorophobia is the fear of chickens.

Satoshi Kon

Satoshi Kon, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

Director Satoshi Kon has died this week at age 46 from pancreatic
cancer.

Along with Hayao Miyazaki he is a master of Japanese Animation.
Both these directors have shown animation can go beyond what people
think and expect.

The movies "Millennium Actress and Paprika are great examples of
his remarkable visual style,
blending the boundaries of reality and fantasy and the breaking of the
"fourth wall"
In fact Paprika has been called the base for the new movie "
Inception " with Leonardo Di Caprio, Ken Watanabe and Ellen Page.

My favorite movies :
" Millennium Actress" is a visually beautiful movie that has past and
present colliding with fate and destiny.
" Tokyo Godfathers " has a more comedic story-line but touches on
themes of guilt, love and what is a family.

His fifth and last movie "The Dream Machine" is still in production.

This is so sad.

Steam Cake

Steam Cake, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

The Oven is usually not a part of the Japanese Kitchen.
Japanese Son has a microwave/oven combination so you can gage how big
his oven is.
This means... No Turkey at Thanksgiving !

Because of the lack of the oven they have come up with a way to steam
the "cake" in the Wok.

It can be called, Steam cake or Cheese cake.
When made comes out quite like a sponge cake only moist, light and
chewy at the same time.

This was a brand that I have never had before, It was nice but I like
the Steamed Cheese Cake I usually buy.
This one had some chopped up candied fruit in it.

But I can tell you it was quite nice with a cup of coffee in the
afternoon.

Storm clouds part 3

Storm clouds part 3, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

It is 7 pm on Monday and the storm is over for now.
Looking west, the storm has passed and the sunset has appeared with a
really strange light refraction.

Storm clouds part 2

Storm clouds part 2, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

It is now 4:30 on Monday and the storm has traveled west.
I haven't retouched the photo but maybe I will play with the colors
later.
I wish my camera could really show how beautiful the Tucson sky is !
I never seem to capture how exciting the sky really is.

Storm Clouds

Storm Clouds, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

It is 2:30 on Monday afternoon, it is 103 right now and the Storm
clouds are rolling in with lots of thunder.
There is a hazardous weather forecast... slow moving storm, gusty
winds and moderate to heavy rainfall with the possible of hail.
Summer in Tucson can be very exciting.

The Foothills and the Catalina Mountains have turned very green with
the summer rains. It is looking quite lush.

Lomo Arigato.... more info

Lomo Arigato.... more info, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

In my rush ? to post more about the LA food trucks I forgot to
mention what an interesting food truck this one is !

Lomo Arigato, is a Japanese-Peruvian food truck. First Korean Taco
now this. What is the world coming too !

And how many languages can I say YUM in.

The back story of how Chef Eric Nakata got this idea and how it came
to be is really interesting.
He does have a web site, I don't know how to link yet, but it is easy
to find
The fourth result, the Daily Dish one has a nice write-up on him.

Lomo Saltado is a Peruvian dish of strips of sirloin marinated in
many spices one of them soy sauce,
then stir-fried and served over rice and homemade fries.

I think ? the name is a play on the "more please" statement. So cute !

We are very lucky to have a Peruvian restaurant in Tucson just down
the street from my home.
I always think I live out in the wild foothills of the Tucson Valley
( I do ) but then I realize
Wow ! there are some fabulous restaurants right in my neighborhood.
That I get to visit when not dodging all the wild animals !

With food this good, everyone stops !

The famous, extremely tasty and all around fun Kogi Korean Taco food
truck.
On my visit to see LA Daughter, I had the pleasure of eating these
fabulous Korean Tacos !

They have a Web site and you look up where the truck will be that day.
And the people line up !
As we can see even the Santa Monica Street Sweeping truck driver had
to stop !

There are days I really miss LA !
More food trucks next post.... check out the Tacos below.
It was hard to take the picture, the drooling was embarrassing !

Korean Tacos !

Korean Tacos !, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

The super 4 taco sampler. Pork. Beef, Tofu and Korean Bar B Que Beef
Rib. Served with cabbage, a fabulous sauce and limes. Sriracha chili
sauce on the side.
My favorite was the Tofu and the Rib meat.
I adore Korean Bar B Que, The ribs are cut thin, across the bone, not
the whole American style rib, marinated and grilled very fast.
I make it and it is surprising easy but so very tasty.

Evening Sky

Evening Sky, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

One of the reasons we who live in Tucson and put up with hot summers
(the other nine months are fabulous) are the Summer skies !

I wish my camera could have gotten the color better, the Red was
tinted with a deep Rose and the sky had more Lavender in it.
The whole sky just glowed !
This was one of the most beautiful and exciting evening skies this
Summer.

Thank You Sunset Magazine.

Thank You Sunset Magazine., originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

Japanese son is always sending me e-mails and posting on his blog all
the fabulous food he is eating in Japan.
It could be some lovely family meal or a dinner out at some of my
favorite restaurants.
Insert food envy here.....

Well son it is Payback Time ! Yeaaa Hawwwww !

I have always wanted to try to make a " Dutch Baby " or as this recipe
in Sunset magazine calls it "Oven Cake".
I researched the different recipes and they were all about the same.
This one had apple slices in it.
I bought a ovenproof frying pan and followed the super easy recipe
and Waa Laaaaaaa !
So tasty and Sunday Brunch was very enjoyable !

I can't believe the finished product looks just like the recipe
photo ! It puffed up and was super light.

So take that Japanese son, I can post yummy food pictures too !
