Sunday Morning in Tucson

Sunday Morning in Tucson, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

All week it has been 65/70 with sunny skies
Then this storm blew in last night with 20 lighting strikes at Gila
Bend ( west of Tucson ) and lots of rain and snow in Tucson.
This morning when the clouds lifted over the Catalina Mountains this
is what I saw. I can never get a good photo just how white and full of
snow the mountains are but it is quite Beautiful !
This view is from my living room door looking north towards the
Catalina Mountains.

This quick sketch took me about 30 minutes.
Now that I am trying to complete this project, I am finding quite a

cloud drawing

cloud drawing, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

The clouds around Tucson have been so fabulous. I just had to grab my
small sketchbook ( that was made by talented daughter ) and draw.
Lately I have had plenty of roadblocks in my way . . . but I said what
the heck and whipped out my pencils and you know what for around 30
minutes or so I felt better and it was fun.
Daughter participated in a month long project that was produce a piece
of art a day... no matter what it was you had to do something art
related everyday... that got me thinking why not me too ? Forget all
the everyday problems/roadblocks and draw.
So yesterday I drew !

Catalina Neblua #6

Catalina Neblua #6, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

More of my magical Nebula pictures... See last post.

If you look at this "Black " photo you can see just how black they
were and if you do look closer there is some variations in the black.
As I said in the last blog I hit enhance once and right before my eyes
magic happened and the colors and pictures appeared.
The only explanation I can give to all the different colors is. . .
there was lighting in the clouds and with my little Kodak Easy Share
camera this is what happened.

Catalina Nebula #1

Catalina Nebula #1, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

There was an incredible storm hanging over the Catalina Mountains during
the 2009 Monsoons. When I downloaded the pictures all but the little 6
second movie came out black. They have been sitting in my " i photo"
since. I didn't hit delete right away and thank goodness I waited.
Look what happened !

I was playing around one day with the photos and I thought what would
happen if I hit enhance ? When I hit the button this is what
happened. . . Magic !
This is what was hiding under all that black !
Fabulous !

These photos reminded me of when I was at Kitt Peak Observatories and
bought some postcard with the stunning images of Rosetta Nebula, Eagle
Nebula and Helix Nebula. ( May 27, 2009 post )

I am stunned ! These wonderful pictures came about because I under
exposed some storm shots ! Who knew ?

Totoro Bento

totoro bento before, originally uploaded by Mollybot.

These are Totoro Bento, talented and lovely Daughter made.

Totoro is made out of white rice and rice mixed with ground black sesame seeds. His details are made out of cheese and seaweed. He is on top of Soboro (ground meat seasoned with soysauce and sugar) mini totoro is a hardboiled egg with cheese and sesame seed eyes.
There is also greenbeans wrapped w/ bacon, ladybug-cherry tomato and snow-pea grass.

On the other side is cucumber and carrot tulips on top of Japanese style potato salad. Apples cut like rabbits and black berries. (one is supposed to look like a soot sprite)

Japanese Moms go crazy making these types of lunches for their children.
Totoro has to be my most favorite movie of all time but anything by Studio Ghibli is just fine by me !

Sunday Morning

Fast moving clouds flying by the Foothills.

Several bloggers have been talking about Castles in the Sky and todays
weather proves the point. There are Castles in the Sky, you see them
all the time in Tucson.
California Daughter talked about Howl's Moving Castle and the clouds
that are in the start of the film, today I feel like I am living in a
Ghibli movie. I rather like that !

Sunday Morning !

Sunday Morning !, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

Very early Sunday morning it started to rain, when it stopped about
Noon this is what I saw out of my studio window ! Snow on the Catalina
Mountains.

We have had lovely warm sunny weather all week. Saturday it was
sweater weather at 68, today temperature will hover around 60.
Tucson is like that in the Winter, warm, sunny and bright then for a
few days some rain and snow and then sunny again.
Spectacular !

Stormy sunset

Stormy sunset, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

This looks like a summer sunset even though I took it on Ground Hog's
Day... My Japanese Son's Birthday.

I think Ground Hog's Day is a fun Holiday to have a Birthday on. Not
too big a Holiday to overshadow a Birthday but a rather funny Holiday
to share the day with.
What shadow ? I don't see any shadow, opps. . . . Yes I did !
Bummer ! six more weeks of winter !
