As asked, I will try to remember to take more photos of more of the blooming cactus.
They all bloom at different times.

  1. Hi, Gayle!

Your Prickly Pear blooms are gorgeous, marvelous and stunning! I once tried my luck at growing a potted Prickly Pear in my sun room. Within a few months the pads were covered with a tarnish like disease and I needed to throw the plant away. Needless to say it failed to bloom indoors. Yours enjoy the benefit of the full bright sunshine and it shows. Do you ever harvest the pads, remove the spines, fry them and eat them? Do they taste like chkikin' :)

It does my heart good to see Winston looking happy in all of those pictures. I wish you and Winston and your catties a wonderful week, dear friend Gayle!

  6. So beautiful and such amazing looking plants! I love how you've captured them in your drawing. You are talented! Do the bees love them too?...along with those pesky pack rats? They look like delicious blossomy snacks if they could get to them around the thorns! Hugs to that gud dug with the sparkling smile. X

    1. You know I am not sure if the bees like them but I have planted rosemary for them along with the citrus trees and the blooming palo verdes.

  8. Those cacti are so cool. My prickly pears look like raisins right now because they spent the winter on a shelf in the garage. Hopefully by July they will look half as pretty as yours.

    Love the artwork! Delightful color.

  9. Such beautiful and colorful blooms! And your drawing is amazing. Such details! Do you use only color pencils?

  10. I use Prisma Pencils they are soft and somewhat oily. So I can mix and blend the colors.
It is hard for me to raise my arms to paint anymore.

  11. What a beautiful post this is, no wonder the flowers inspired you to produce some lovely artwork. (I'm looking at your materials with interest - how do you use the soft, wide brush?)
Smiley Winston with the film star teeth!

But I must confess the portrait of a little black doggie grinning at us is my favorite! Winston is too too cute!
