  1. He sure is a busy bee. I think that lizard got squashed under that rock. Love the hedge topiaries. I have several, but they are all birds.

  2. Dear Mandibles. Just you keep you eye on those pack rats. As for those cute hedges - you must be proud that they have portrayed you on a hedge (but not as beautiful as you are in real life.)

  3. Cool hedges!

Winston is a very attentive guard dog. Though he can be bribed with belly rubs.

  4. Does he ever catch one? When Miss Kitty gets one we have to get it away from her because she'll eat it and it will make her sick.

  5. He doesn't catch any, so far. they are usually beyond the fence area but they climb over to to destroy my plants and build nests at night. I have a service that comes every 3 months to look for the buggers. Expensive but needed.

  8. Does he actually catch the lizards and kill/eat them? I shudder to think of what our resident mousers would do with a lizard. Wouldn't be pretty.

    1. They/he never eat them but there are lots of tails laying around. Before the snake fence was put up with Winston and thehamish patrolling the perimeter we had lots of lizards to catch. Quite a few bodies belly up with missing legs and tails everywhere. They just killed them but never ate them, thank goodness.

    2. Pretty sure our top mouser - the Squirt, she's ruthless - would give one a good munch.

  9. I was glad to hear your response above that said Winston hasn't caught any of the lizards. We wouldn't want "our" boy to get sick. A neighbor's cat... who thinks he's OUR cat... caught a small snake and was whipping it around in his mouth like it was a play toy. I was horrified, because we have lots of poisonous snakes around here, so I sent my hubby outside to get it away from him. The snake was dead, and evidently, it didn't sink its fangs into Cowboy, because he still greets me at the front door every morning when I go out for the newspaper.

LOVE those hedges! We visited a topiary in Maryland years ago, and I was astounded by how artistically those hedges were formed, but DOH! I didn't have a camera with me. (And you're right... the Scotties should definitely be bigger than the cats.)

    Have a super weekend.

  15. Dear, dear Gayle - and Hamish too - you really are the very kindest people. I have had a couple of days in the Lakes - I come back to an empty house having collected Tess from the kennels. What is sitting on our doorstep - a lovely toy for Tess, a puzzle book and such pretty book markers for me (no one has seen anything like them before) and a cactus badge. I love a parcel - Tess loves one even more and like a child, plays with the packaging until it is torn to bits. All was wrapped in the prettiest tea towel. I can't thank you enough - you made my coming home to no farmer much more bearable. Bless you dear one. And thank you.

  16. Does Winston eat the lizards or just chew and spit like my little monsters?

  17. Someone should invent a spry for topiarists ? that would inhibit growth or am I just lazy?
