Number five on my favorite list of life in Japan is Ekiben, train food.
I have posted several times about my love of train food.
Railway boxed meals are specific type of a bento meal. They are sold at train stations
and on the train itself. They are made up of food especially from what region you are traveling in.
Fabulous packaging, wonderful presentation and terrific food.
You can eat and drink on the trains in Japan.
Everyone is polite, no drunks and no one tosses their trash on the floor like in America.
.
Let the tasty begin.

Ok, I have added this to my must do life list!
ReplyDeleteOn local trains when your in rush hour, no room for eating but in longer train rides it is perfect.
DeleteOr people buy then to take home.
Oh it is all so pretty, almost a shame to eat it, too!
ReplyDeleteMust eat, too good not to and I really miss the food,
DeleteAll very neatly packaged too!
ReplyDeleteI have saved many of the wrappings.
DeleteSuper fantastico! I mean it, p, these images were gorgeous. Le whee!
ReplyDeleteGreat wrapping and food.
DeleteI have to admit that I've never had any desire to try sushi....
ReplyDeleteNorma, if we ever meet we will go for Japanese were you can have some cooked food and then try some sushi.
DeleteYou will love it
That, Parsnip, is as pretty as it gets!
ReplyDeleteawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
DeleteHELLO ERYL !
I have been thinking of you and happy to see your comment.
I squealed like a little fan girl.
Only the French, in «Louis'» experience, equal the Japanese in the art of presentation.
ReplyDeleteThat, however, does NOT include French train food which is the butt of many a joke in France...
:-)
I think French food is wonderful and Japanese food is as far away as it can be.
DeleteEach wonderful in its own way.
I don't think we even have train food besides Mac Donald's
Nice colors, and pretty - much better than a plastic wrapped American fast food sandwich.
ReplyDeleteI also noted that beer was present for most of the meals.
No room for beer on commuter trains during rush hour.
DeleteBut on my ride to Osaka one afternoon a nicely dressed man was sipping a beer before his stop.
What beautiful, wholesome and exciting food Parsnip - when I think of the rubbish that one can purchase on our trains - it fills me with despair.
ReplyDeleteAnd it tastes wonderful !
DeleteNo drunks?!!! Okay, I doubt things have changed THAT much in 15 years. I'm guessing I rode the trains at a later hour than you, perhaps.
ReplyDeleteI did ride lots of last call trains Osaka to Sanda and there are filled with drunks but many of them were quiet and almost dead just getting up for their stop. Osaka is really crazy but I never had any problems. I think it is were you are and where your going and how many 20 year olds you get. Or after a Hanshi Tigers game !
ReplyDeleteThese train rides I was talking about are the long major city to city rides. I never ran into any drunks there and everyone drank.
Commuter trains are always crazy anywhere.
Did you ever run into the old grandpas peeing in the street ? I have done that.
Great webpage brother I am gona inform this to all my friends and contacts. shellyhawkins
