Tangelos

Tangelos, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

Here are some of the Tangelo's that I am fighting the cheeky little
Cactus Wrens for. With their long beaks they poke a hole in the fruit
then all the other birds come and eat too. I really don't mind too
much after all it is starting to be winter, even here in sunny
Tucson, Arizona.

Tangelos are a cross between a Tangerine and a Grapefruit, they taste
like a Tangerine but are very juicy like a Grapefruit. They have loose
skin and are easier to peel than an Orange and have a cute little knob
on top where they attach to the branch.

When the Cactus Wrens let me have one, I am always amazed by how
sweet, juicy and tasty they are.

  2. Thanks so much for the introduction to the Tangelos. Never had them, and we probably don't have them here in the super markets also. Thanks for sharing, very nice and refreshing photo parsnip. Anna :)

  3. I love tangelos and the wrens left here and while they might be in your back yard now, those up here ate spiders. I didn't have a clue they like fruit. Remind me to put out some fruit for them when they come back in 2010.

  4. Yum! I could use that vitamin C right now. Really, whenever I stop eating oranges, I get sick. Anyway, yes, you heard it. I woke up this morning ...sick! And Kat and Will are sick too.

They are so good ! Growing up in the Southwest, Citrus tree were every where. For much of the world Christmas means snow, when I see Tangerines that is Christmas to me.

It is the Cactus Wrens that poke holes in the fruit... but the little Wrens, we have several kinds, come eat too.
