parley view parsnip. . soda and beer !

Monday Monday. . .
Hello Mammas and the Pappas.
.
The older I get the faster the weeks goes.
So a quick Monday post , because I want to keep my
Monday Wednesday and Friday posting.
.
Soda !
Cactus Cooler.
Growing up in the wild wild wild west,
this is something from my childhood. Even Fred Flintstone loved this drink.
Outside of Arizona it is hard to find.
A local favorite it is a pineapple orange soda.  Great with outdoor barbecues.
But it is sweet and one will do just fine.
Son just bought some. Oh my childhood is calling.
I have limited myself to one a month.
.

We didn't have much sweet sodas when I grew up but this was a treat along with
A and W Root Beer bought from the stand.
If we were lucky we were able to have a root beer float !
Heaven.
.
Beer !
I don't drink, I am on too many drugs since I was 15 years old.
But sometimes I will have a small sip of beer with a Japanese dinner
because it works so well with sushi.
.
When second son finished up his degree at Flagstaff he found several small
Brewing Companies he liked.
....
He met both owners of these two breweries.
He really likes the Mother Road Brewing Company and
Flagstaff Brewing Company.
And of course I tossed in The Grand Canyon one for fun.
.
To the East in New Mexico

this local beer is a hoot !
And according to both sons is very good. They both like it.

.
Tucson has several great breweries but one of Son's favorites is
Iron John's
 Small batches and great bottles.
Great Beer.
.
And just because I can here is your pretty to start the week !
.
who is eating my melon plant ?
.
 .
urrrrr gooourrr ummmmp ......
Walking Dead carrot tops, the bottoms were eaten !
yunmmur eurp
More fun from John's Blog fun veggie show blog.
I had such fun making these.

  1. Pretty pictures, dear Gayle! I once had a modest collection of beer cans from various states and around the world. In 1992 I quit drinking cold turkey (and alcohol :) and haven't had a single drop since - more than 23 years and counting. It has also been decades since I had a soft drink but I remember loving Squirt and other citrus and fruit flavored sodas when I was a kid. Mrs. Shady and I enjoyed visiting Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon and Tuscon on our trip to California last year.

Have a wonderful week, dear friend Gayle!

  3. We make a point of trying out local brews when we travel. I like the sound of black iron IPA.

  4. Beautiful sunset, I remember A & W, we'd buy it by the gallon. Not much of a beer drinker, like them dark if I do have one, like Guinness.

    1. Lots of people bought it by the gallon but for us it was a special treat.

  5. My brother used to live in Flagstaff. His widow might still live there. I don't know. I have a nephew in Phoenix. The nephew in Phoenix and his older brother, who lives in Salt Lake City, adore beer. They travel to Europe to try various beers. I don't like beer, and when I have soda it's diet coke or pepsi. Last night I had a frozen raspberry margarita with a sugar rim. It was muy delicioso. I can't think of how to write "it was." I want to substitute French, but I have a bad habit of mixing up French and Spanish, especially after a margarita. I talked to the cashier last night and told him I'm la hermanita (little sister) in my family. I remember trying to say something else. French dropped out of my mouth. Then I came home and sang Bali Hai. Willy Dunne Wooters said I should have seen the look on Franklin's face and the way his ears went up the louder I sang.

    Love,
    Janie

    2. I don't care much for wine. I rarely drink, so the margarita had me feeling great.

  6. Cactus Cooler! I sure haven't heard of it before. Love those cans of local beers. The Grand Canyon can is very cute. My hometown is near the prefecture where strawberry is very famous. They have all things with strawberry, and strawberry beer is one of them. I haven't gotten a chance to try...but would like to some day :-) I did try strawberry curry, which was interesting!
Love your veggie photos :-) Have a happy new week!

You paid for an hour and could eat as many strawberries as you wanted. But not take any away.

    2. I love herbal teas but that's it. No more coffee or regular tea for me these days. Thankfully, Barnes sells mint tea, otherwise, I'd not be able to drink there. Tim though, gets a cold coffee caramel caramel caramel. The girls make it for him special.

      Happy Almost Halloween.

  12. Uh-huh, blame the son. LOL. He taught you a lot about beer, I guess. I used to love Cactus-Cooler, thanks for reminding me. I'll have to track some down.

  13. First thing I thought of when I saw the Cactus Cooler photo was that old Flintstone cartoon. Poor Fred dragging himself home from work with only the thought of his Cactus Cooler keeping him going. Why it stuck in my mind is unknown, but I had no idea the drink actually existed.

  14. I like the sound of "Cactus Cooler". I'd never heard of it until now. A soda that I enjoy occasionally that I think is only sold here in the South is called Cheerwine. :)

  15. Hello Parsnip, that Cactus Cooler sounds very good to me. I am not a beer drinker except in summer to have a cold beer. Here in Belgium we are famous for the great assortment one can drink.
    Have a nice day,
    Roos
