  2. My weenie, Sister, used to get treats then I heard the ones made in China were causing harm, and quit giving them. I blame China for her idiopathic liver disease, plus who knows, she might not have gotten diabetes either. I give her one quarter sized chicken hard chew a day made in the USA. She was very upset, but finally got over it. Oh, I just hope Ham's new regimen helps. My girls are eleven and I was upset last night just at the thought of losing them. We'll all be hoping Ham rallies.

    2. I went to get the bag and got grossed out. It is in an orange striped bag called SMOKEHOUSE, prime chips of chicken breast and beef ligament. Ugh. It is made in the USA and they use grown in the USA chicken. Hard rounds and they can crunch them up pretty fast, but I only give them one a day. They have so many stomach problems that I cook their food and mix it with a Science Diet kibble. They are so picky. I get them at a store called Southern Agriculture. How is the boy today?

    3. Gayle, I was just reading the back and it says 100% natural with no fillers, preservatives, artificial flavors, chemicals or colorings. Called Smokehouse Prime Chips and are from a company called Smokehouse Pet Products, Inc. made in Sun Valley, CA. Also says it comes in different flavors. My weenies love them and they are picky.

  5. Many years ago I was giving The Square One Chicken.... till like you I saw that under all the print they were made in China or the chickens were from China. I stopped feeding them this China posin over 15 ? years ago but I think the seed of damage was started.
I think they are what affected Watson and caused his death. If I don't cook it myself Son buys it from the Feed Store, chickens and made only in the USA.
China poisoned so many of their children adding melliane (SP) to the milk/formula you think they care about our dogs ? I almost felt like taking these scumbgag American companies to court. Make and use American workers and grown here food sources. Stupid moneygrubbing companies.
I am/was so careful with The Square Ones...
Anyway his kidneys are washing out too much protein so I have to drop the chicken strips. I think that was caused by me letting him have a few bully sticks to chew. Of course he loved them.
Anyways I am so upset with myself and everything.

    1. I still look on packages for something for my weenies to chew on, but nearly everything still comes from China. I thought many of the stores like Wal Mart were going to discontinue products from China. Makes me mad too. You found out about the Chinese stuff way before me. You are doing the best you can, so just love him. That's the best medicine for Ham (and you.)

  9. Hi, Gayle!

I am very sorry to learn that both you and thehamish are filled with woe instead of chikikin'. It's never a good time to be battling to preserve your beloved pet's health. I am so sorry you and thehamish are facing a challenge with his kidneys. I will keep you both in my prayers. At least you are still able to find comfort in those humorous cartoons. I enjoyed them and thank you for sharing.

I will be thinking about you and thehamish as we ring in the new year.

    God bless, Gayle!

  10. Gayle, I admit that I would also be angry. I am hoping that dear hamish might just have an idea of how many folks hold him in their hearts...folks he's never set eyes on...but folks who have certainly had the pleasure of seeing his eyes...and that smile, too. xo

  12. I am so sorry to read this about the Hamish. For several years, after the first rash of bad dog food products in the news, we stopped feeding our Fuzzy any purchased dog food. I cooked various types of meat and sometimes chicken or fish for him. We also gave him cottage cheese, sweet potato and or regular potato. He was doing very well with "home cooking", but I recently started giving him limited ingredient store bought dog food because knee surgery looms in my fairly near future and I know I won't feel like doing canine cooking for a while after that. After reading about your Hamish, I am considering going back to being Fuzzy Pom's personal chef again.

I hope Hamish will rally once again. He is such a "gud" dog.

    1. That is so nice for you to say.
I cook off and on for The Square Ones. But now he is on such a limited diet that even me cooking for him is hard. I cooked and freezed his food before. I would ask the vet which food is the best plus they have the fresh food now.
I really do not know the answer. All I know is just read the label and read between the lines. Then flip a coin.
Good luck with your knee. I have had the replacement and I am 50/50 about it. And I had the same doctor as the Lakers !

  16. Hello! I followed a few crumbs from another blog about a week ago to your blog, and have enjoyed getting to know you - I'm just sorry to read about the kidney issues for your boy, Hamish. I have only had one Scottie, and senior dogs and we've dealt with these same kinds of kidney issues as well, and I'm sure I couldn't offer any advice you've not already tried or been told about. I can only send my good vibes from my corner of Virginia that your most handsome boy stays healthy!
