parley view parsnip....Paperman

.

 FABULOUS !

I viewed this Oscar nominated and wining,  short film at The Loft Theater.
If you can remember that my daughter's birthday gift to me was a month long Hayao Miyazaki film festival, they ran this short one day. I was so excited !

I personally like short films and animation films so much better that most of the bloated, overpriced hollywood offering they toss at us every year.

Here is a wonderful article  that has the whole 6 minute short and explains the innovative animation by reintroducing line work.
I loved this film (story is charming and music is lovely) one scene  especially stands out, not more than a second long,  2 cuts, when the main character is being pushed up the train steps by the paper, the play of shadows, black and white and line work is exceptional.

And a shout out to "Brave" (who won the Oscar) and  "Wreck It Ralph" both different style animation film and both great viewing. But I must admit "Wreck It Ralph" is better view with a 20+ year old who has played most of the games because of all the inside jokes. This  made the film so much better for me because I laughed all the more because of daughters infectious laughter.
Much like the film "UP" ( another fabulous animation film) daughter lived in Oakland at the time this film came out and there is a lot of inside jokes/places about the area around the studio.

  5. Oakland sounds like a scary place, from afar anyway.

    1. There are very nice parts of Oakland but it can be violent and scary.

  6. As a matter of interest, Parsnip, a friend's daughter was part of a group of six young people
at a college in the UK, who made a short animated film called 'Head Over Heels', which was nominated for an Oscar this year. Her grandmother paid for her and her boyfriend to come to LA for the ceremony. They didn't win, but she is only 23 and my goodness, what an experience for her, and what a fantastic thing to be able to put on her CV.

    1. I saw "Head Over Heels" and liked it very much. Stop Animation takes a very long time, it took them 15 months to finish.
I also liked "Adam and Dog" but it made me cry.

  7. Lucky you! Sounds like you've been having a whale of a time. I love animation too, my son did his degree in animation and I was looking forward to him making lots of films but he's become a photographer. Paperman looks fab, want to see it bad.

«Louis» thanks you for posting it. Otherwise he likely would not have seen it!
