New Summer Firefly Card !

New Summer Firefly Card !, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

New Summer card sent by my Japanese son and his lovely wife and super
mum to be !

The card is a fabulous fold out 41/2 x 4 x 11/2.
Press the button and the fireflies blink, cricket chirp and you hear
the stream running under the two bridges
Two young girls in summer Yukatas are playing with lanterns on a bridge.

As you know from my earlier blog July 20, 2009 I love fireflies and
the Firefly bridge over the Arima-Gawa River
in Yamaguchi-cho, Nishinomiya, Japan.

Summer update . . . In Tucson today it is suppose to be our very first
day of 100 degrees . . . Oh goodie summer is here !

Todays post was lost ! It is floating around the internet somewhere.

Another day I will rewrite it but not today.... the Internet Gods are

Shadows

Shadows, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

I love shadows and in Tucson we have such strong sunlight that make
terrific shadows.
This shadow reminds me of the famous Charles Rennie Mackintosh flower.

This is a Sundial that my Japanese son bought at an art auction, for
me, where all the pieces were made from bike parts.
Many of the artist belonged to the Bike Club Of Tucson, they also have
an art class that teaches you how to do this !
I really think this is a fabulous art piece !

Japanese son left his crazy bike lamp with me, so on my next trip to
Japan I am going to see if I can stuff in in some luggage
and try to pass through baggage screenings.

Oh Lord Protect Me !

If you hear of some rucks at the Los Angles Airport in a few
months . . . ummmmm that could be me . . . throwing myself on the
mercy of the LA Airport police . . .

in . . . see it is a crazy bike lamp . . . Really ! "

Cholla cactus

Cholla cactus, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

Cholla cactus or as we like to call it in Arizona ... Jumping
cactus ! Bad bad bad cactus ! I really hate you cactus ! Go away
cactus !
Not my most favorite plant in fact I quite despise it.

Cholla grows with cylindrical joints that can and will dislodge with
ease when brushed up against. People will swear it jumps at you
because of how fast the cactus can attache itself to you.

The spiny curved thorns impale you easily but getting them out is a
huge undertaking and leave quite a bit of swelling for several
days after you pull them out.

The cactus can grow quite large and I have several on my land that are
taller than me. Thank goodness it is on the part of my property
that I really don't visit, and leave undisturbed for the wild animals.

The flowers bloom in a rather lovely golden yellow but this magenta-
red is the most common. The blooms are similar to the
Prickly Pear cactus but these flower petals are thicker and the bloom
opens flatter.
For such a terrible cactus the blooms are so very beautiful.

Just starting ... I am so tiny but...

I'm A Big Boy Now !

I'm A Big Boy Now !, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

The plants grow fast in Arizona !

I will be removing a few pads to open the cactus up and will start new
plants from the removed pads.
Love the color of this Prickly Pear. The blooms are yellow, none this
year but I will have some next year.
Nature knows a great color pallet.

Remember Me ?

Remember Me ?, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

Remember me, soft cuddly and rather cute ?

Just look below to see what has happened to me !

Look at me now !

Look at me now !, originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

In the few short weeks the new growth has gone from alien rubbery leaf
spikes to dry hard and very painful spikes.

Summer is fast approaching and all the plants are starting their water
conserving mode. Wildflowers are just about gone,
Prickly Pears are blooming like crazy and the Saguaros are just
starting to bloom.

Summer with !00+ temperatures and monsoons will be next !

Quail nest ...

Quail nest ..., originally uploaded by angryparsnip.

Quail nest I found, in the small fenced in side yard between my studio
and the Citrus grove.

Ten beautiful tiny eggs that will hatch and become the most charming,
funny and all around cutest baby birds ever !
The babies follow in an undulating line behind the Mum as the Dad
follows
.
One baby will always get side tracked, run every which way and
finally get back in the line !
So very funny, just like watching a live cartoon.

Driving down neighborhood streets is a challenge.

Now the house painters will have to wait till the babies hatch and can
leave the nest !

Mothers Day Cards from Japan

Great cards from Japan.

The Duck card from my Lovely Daughter In Law is a accordion fold out.
Pink and red card with black kitty is cut paper and from my son.

The homemade postcard is a Sake label, If you have read this blog
before you know how much I love Japanese labels.
My son collects and makes postcards from them to send to me. Love them !

What makes this post card so sweet and very funny is . . .
my son didn't really read the label and his intelligent, lovely wife
and expectant mum to be,
pointed out the name of Sake is " Hatsumago "
or " First Grandchild " in English. How very appropriate is that ? ? ?

So forget what the Calendar says and just love your Mum every day !
and everyone else too...

The Third part of my "The Good The Bad and The Very Very Sad"
( Goodness I loved Lee Van Cleef !)

has been put on hold for a few days for added input . . .
