Random Saturday...

I rarely post on Saturday but....
Woke up Saturday and decided to make some candied Kumquats
I just love the word Kumquats and it is great fun to write it too.

Kumquats, sugar and water simmer for several hours.

While that was cooking I made a few other  recipes.
What a strange group of ingredients !

I made jeanette from everton terrace's secret sauce.
It is a Chipotle Vinaigrette
Jeanette said it was good and it is !
Thanks Jeanette, this is a keeper !

Next up, quick pickled cabbage Kim Chee.
Salted cabbage in a zip bag

garlic, scallions and ginger

added to the bag along with Sriracha hot chili sauce, I didn't have any Korean chili sauce.
Smooch ( cooking term) it up,  zip the bag real tight refrigerate for for 6 hours, ready in time for dinner.

Kumquats are done.
So beautiful.

Instant Kim Chee ready to eat with dinner.
I add a bit to much Sriracha so this batch will and can rip your lips off !
But really good !
Got milk or yogurt ?
yert !

cooking. . . parsnip
music. . . Free Falling,  Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers

  1. Fun!
So glad you like the sauce, a staple in our home for sure.
I once had a Kumquat tree, never knew what to do with them :)

    1. I had a kumquat tree in my last two homes, always in a pot. I lost the one in my Tucson home in the hard freeze we had two years ago.
I am thinking of buying another one and a Myers Lemon tree also.

An older friend of mine always put the candied one in her dink. Not sure a Manhattan maybe ?
You can chop one up and put on yogurt, cottage cheese, with fruit and cheese, chopped up on buttered toast and the syrup can be used to sweeten all kinds of drinks especially lemonade.
Plus I always had so many I would put then in a small dish on my desk. Pretty.

    1. One of my favorite dishes is Kim Chee and Pork from a wonderful restaurant, Tombo next to where my son lives.

  3. I really did think it was going to be a Hamish house (below!) but the planter is very nice too.
    whenever I think of Kumquats, I visualize ( and hear!) W C Fields.......saing KUMQUATS!

    1. We can't have any doggie homes outside where I live. Because of the pack rats, scorpions, snakes and wolf spiders.
If I lived down in the valley or the city it would be different. But not in the foothills.

  4. Goodness you have been so busy. Wish I could try some of those things. I have eaten candied kumquats but they're not that well known over here.
