Wednesday In Japan... Tanba Pottery

On one of my trips to visit family in Japan, son planned a visit to Tamba Pottery
Kondacho Tachikui, Sasayama-shi Hyogo.
This is a potters dream, a beautiful lush green valley complete with river, were every turn if the road you see a studio with the trade made dark brown pottery for sale.
Son drove us down the valley and we ended at the Tanba Traditional Art Craft Park.
We toured the pottery studios and viewed the unique Kilns.
As part of our tour  we were able to sit at long tables use the special clay and make something to be fired later.
Lots of cups and mug where made but I decided I would make a flower pod with seeds.
It just seemed right with all the natural  beautiful valley around me.
The family joke was what the staff said when they had to fire these pieces.

I would love to spend at lest one whole day in this valley touring many of the the studios .

I just looked at that photo it does looks like a small character in the pot. I was just trying to show that every thing went inside like seeds in a pod.

  6. How cool to have a valley of artists in one place. Like wine country for potters or people who love pottery. I like the seed pod. It tells a story.
