parley view parsnip... summer is here

Summer is here.
We went from a rather bracing 98 on Thursday hahahaha to 102 on Friday.
I  picked 31 May as the day Tucson officially hit 100.
I won ! One whole dollar.
Woo Hoo Yea  Me !

The photos are somewhat fuzzy. Shot through the window while trying not to disturb the bunny.

The bunnies especially like to dig in the damp earth around the citrus trees and nap
the hot afternoon away

Very young bunny is resting under the Texas Rangers which are about 9 feet tall and give lots of shade.
I have added extra drips to insure plenty of cool earth for the next few months.

Bunnies and Quails together.
The damp earth is Switzerland.

This young male quail with no covey of his own is digging a napping place.
I love how deep he is digging.

Finding just the right spot.

I am always amazed by how nosy the quail are.
The ledge outside this window is not deep but they love to walk up and down and peck on the window.  Hello Hello are you there ?
I will catch some movement out of the corner of my eye while on the computer and look up to see a quail peeking in . But since I am always watching them it is only fair.  No ?
When they whip out a camera then I am in big trouble.
.........................................

The Tucson air has some of the smoke from the California wildfires.

Because of the smoke, our sunsets have that refracted surreal quaility to them
the last few evenings. Reminds me of the Northern Lights somewhat.
This is a very muted photo that doesn't really show how bright this sunset was.

hot. . . parsnip

  1. Summer in the City is perfect. Am going to listen to it now. Brings back memories of the summer of '95.

I love, 'the damp earth is Switzerland.'

    1. They have many bushes and drip system to hid and cool off under. I also put the sprinkler on for them.

  4. Everything goes into a doze when the weather gets hot here too Parsnip - even though our 'hot' is not quite the same as yours! That sky is amazing.

    1. I have The square Ones in a fenced in yard. The Bun Buns are on the other side.
Even though Watson has and likes bunnies thehamish would chase then so I am very careful when they go outside and not on a lead.

  7. An amazing sky - what colours!

The wild creatures must be very grateful for their damp earth, a bit of shade and a trickle of water.

    1. I don't feed the wild ones but... if it wasn't for us humans there would be more water around, so I do make sure to put out water.

    1. It was only that one evening that we had the 60's bright disco colors. We do have fabulous sunsets.

  10. I guess the quail and the rabbit are comfortable enough around each other...

That's a bigger rabbit than the ones I've seen here in the city.

    "Wascally wabbit!"

    1. It is so funny it is like they ignore each other. The quail are inches from the bunnies and no one cares.

  11. Nice of you to supply sleeping space. Do you put out water to drink too? We put out a low bowl and stuck a drip emitter in it to keep it full.

    1. Yes I do but I have javelinas, bobcats and mountains lions mosey through so dishes get tipped. I am sinking a small shallow "pond" in for everyone. plus the dish out under Texas Rangers.

    2. That would be nice - perhaps a small pond with dripping fountain, so birds can get on the upper part and critters down below.

  12. Wow, that picture of the sky is gorgeous. Something about the grand colors lifts my heart. It's a shame something so awful as the wildfires is causing it.

It's hot enough here that I'm considering not going outside to do some second-coat painting on the house exterior, but it isn't nearly as bad as what you're experiencing. The poor critters. It's so hot, if a dog wanted to chase that bunny, they'd both be sauntering.

    1. It is the time of the year when if I don't get outside stuff done by 11 that is it and I am inside.
Crazy thehamish would chase bunnies if he could.

  13. Wow, that last photo is stunning. I stared and stared at it! Gorgeous--my kind of pink. Are those bunnies or jack rabbits? The nose seems longer....
