parley view parsnip. . . much too early.

Our spring blooms came early and left fast.
I didn't even get a chance to get any photos this year.
Now all the cactus and trees are blooming at the same time.
This is rather worrying for me,  does this means we will have an early hot summer
and possibly a dry one ?
Last week there was a wildfire 50 miles to the southwest and another one 120 miles east to the New Mexico border. Then early last month we have had 4  smaller ones.  Much too eary.
Yikes !

Arizona Daily Star.

Some of the Prickly Pear in my yard.
.
 .

You can see all the bud are starting to bloom.
I love the salmon pink/red of the buds that are just starting to open.

On this purple Prickly Pear Cactus you can see the rosey red new growth pads,
along with all the buds.

This Prickly Pear gets more sun so can see how beautiful the pad can get.
The sage blue pads with the lavender purple tinted edges.
.
I am not sure if this is a shrub or tree.  It was broken but years ago I taped it up and staked it.
It has grown up very nicely. I love the berries that are green with a tint of rose.

I ran out at 2:30 in the afternoon and took this photo.
Trouble it was too sunny and bright. I will take some more photos today
in late afternoon. Thes dedicate tissue thin flowers are beautiful.

  2. Hi, dear Gayle!

As a collector of cacti and succulents I envy your beautiful assortment of Prickly Pear. Do you ever harvest and eat the pads? That's a handsome interior dog house. Do you think thehamish would enjoy having one like it? thehamish is Mr. Photogenic and a gud dog to boot.

    Happy Monday, dear friend Gayle!

    1. The pad can be slimy so I don't really like them but I have them in tacos.
The fruit is much better but you have to be careful picking them. Take the spines off, peal the skin off, remove the seeds then eat. or cook and strain the seeds.

  3. Such great photos from the garden. Prickly Pear cacti are blooming so beautifully! I certainly hope summer won't come too early, and not gonna be too dry.
I wonder if thehamish is thinking about Watson in his spot. He is such a sweet dug.
Happy Monday and have a great new week!

  4. I am enjoying seeing the views from your part of the country. The cactus plants are clearly thriving, even if some other weather aspects would worry me, too.

I've bought some tiny cactus plants over the past month from the farmers market. So far, they manage to stay alive (but not exactly thrive) on my south-facing window sill, with limited daily sunlight. I'm inspired by the glory of your plants, and hope that my own specimens will keep on keeping on.

I think that the Hamish has a lovely condo that looks much more comfy than that indoor dog house.

  6. Do dogs generally keep away from those plants, I can imagine my silly setter roaring after something and trying to do a high speed turn too close. He sticks his nose straight into the base of bushes after liizzzzarrrrrdddsss.

  7. Awesome prickly pears. I have some in a pot that spend the winter sleeping on a shelf in the garage. Crazy spring weather! I bought it out a couple weeks ago, then it snowed so it's back in the garage.

Yes! Baseball!! Tigers opening day today!

  10. It can be worrying when things are too early. Here in Britain we were getting Spring flowers in January. But somehow mother nature caught up. Thehamish looks happy there, I must say!

  11. Hair Ball stays away from the spots Sir Poops used to hang in. He won't even eat in the kitchen anymore. Love your Prickly Pear photos.

    1. Oh that is so sad to read. I am so sorry for him. It didn't really sink into thehamish that Watson wasn't coming back until a week or so. They had been separated off and on so I think thehamish thought Watson was coming back. He is not as "I am wanting to be the top dog" anymore. He has mellow in a day and in fact is very clingy to me.
