parley view parsnip. . . last week of October

Terrific weather in Tucson.
It rained off and on for a few days, then sunshine a few days, then more rain.
More like our winter weather patterns.
Our summer weather patterns were off also. But if it means we are getting rain,
then I am very happy and will not complain.

The last three photos colors changed from a red orange to pink lavender
that ended in blue gray.
The evening sunset in technicolor.

As I was washing up at the sink and thinking I always show this view.
.

So I turned around and looked out to my front yard.

................

And just because I can here is your pretty for the first of November.
.
One rainy evening we went out to dinner at the famous very old
The El Corral Restaurant.
It is such a wonderful old adobe building that I will have to come back another day
and take some better photos.
I liked the way the outdoor lights looked on the stormy evening.

The lights from inside reflected on the window looking out into the garden
and the lights.

I was in the car trying to take a fast photo because of two cars behind us.
But the outstanding neon sign just blurred.
But I will be back earlier in the evening so you can really see the sign.
The old sign is just too fabulous to be missed.

  1. The photos of the sky are incredible...! Such beautiful colors on the clouds at sunset. I really love the last shot. And I love the decoration at the restaurant. Cacti are looking very cute with lights on :-)

  2. Hi, dear Gayle! As an avid collector of cacti and succulents I was wondering if the native plants around Tuscon suffered or rotted as a result of the unusually abundant rainfall this summer.

These are marvelous pictures, works of art suitable for framing. You have a beautiful house and a breathtaking view of the mountains and desert. Lucky you and lucky square dog thehamish!

    1. I am not sure, The cactus usually have a two months summer storms zooming through here. Fast, hard that comes in a wave. Doesn't really sink into the ground. Before the monsoons it is hot super hot for 2 months with temps into 115 + so the plants soak up the rain when it comes.
Then winter is usually two months long with rain soaking into the ground. What hurts the cactus is the super hard freezing temp we had a few years ago.it was bad. I lost 7 citrus trees.
The the rain is need the cactus will store it and all the critters will have a good harvest.
If we have another good rain it will help. Unlike California our drought is only about 5 years old.

    2. Thanks for the explanation, dear friend Gayle. My collection is indoors and containerized and naturally I need to be careful not to over water my specimens. If you'd like to see a picture of my cactus collection, please follow this link and scroll down the page. You will come to it about halfway through the post.

  3. Thank you for your birthday wishes Gayle. They were much appreciated.
The view from your sink is one of the most amazing views I have ever seen - must be a pleasure standing there.

  4. Beautiful country--I've been missing the West a lot lately. Living where you do, have you read "Going Back to Bisbee" by Richard Shelton?

    1. No I haven't read that. In fact I have not been to Bisbee in years.I read a lot about the Missions, Tombstone, cattle country, mining and the geography of the area along with all the rock and minerals. I have a piece of Jerome Turquoise that is not mined anymore.
When I was younger we explored all over the southern area to Mexico. We would take day trips everywhere. I miss that. We explored everywhere. Boots, ha,t long pants and a stick !
I miss walking out in the wilderness. Now I would not dare.
We also used to explore Organ Pipe National Park. Now if you want to go past the Ranger Station, you have to be under an armed guard. The cartels, illegals, drug runners it is awful. One of our agents was killed there. My Brother who was head of the law enforcement of the Forest Service has unbelievable stories of what hell the border is. Off track here......
Anyways I will look up this book. Thank for the help.

  8. Love those crazy orange clouds- they look like pumpkin flavored cotton candy!

  9. Wow, what a view! The colors in the clouds make me want to go paint...or try to paint them, I should say. And the mountains! Beautiful. As a gal born in a state that's "almost heaven", I cannot have a totally flat state. Mountains make them interesting.

I have some neices that live in AZ and they love it out there.

Kisses for thehamish and hugs for you, dear pal. Sorry that I haven't gotten around as much but things are looking up!

      Something is just not right.
I know you busy. I don't expect everyone to comment all the time.
      Just when they can.
