Saturday I had some of my favorite visitors drop in for nibbles and drinks.
They chatted, had a drink and moseyed on.
Javelinas !
Sorry the photos are burry but they were always moving.
We have had some rain fall so they were not as hot and thirsty as usual.
A Mum her new wee ones. The babies are called Reds. Little loafs of hairy bread.
When they are so tiny, they say so close to Mum copying everything she does.
They have to grow up fast.
.
Tiny babies, walking right behind their Mum who is behind the tree.
.
And here they are again. Right next to Mum.
.
So tiny so sweet.
.
These are my clan my tribe my people.
As a child growing up in Tucson, Javelinas were always my favorite animal.
I have written about my people before, but a fun fact they are peccary not pigs,
they are members of the Tayassuidae family.
But best fact they of all they are related to the hippopotamus.
Woo Hoo !

And just because I can here is your pretty to start the week.

Hi, dear Gayle! I love these pictures of your Javelina visitors! Does thehamish sit in the window and bark at them? I know I told another Arizona friend, but don't remember telling you this. Mrs. Shady and I saw peccary when we vacationed in Tuscon last summer. We were inside the visitors center at Saguaro National Park. I looked out the window and there, a few feet away, was a herd of Javelina snoozing in the shade of the building. I loved it!
ReplyDeleteThanks again, dear Gayle, and have a wonderful week!
They look interesting but they are wild with razor sharp teeth.
DeleteThey look like wild boars. We have them in Florida.
ReplyDeleteThey look kind of like a boar but not at all related.
DeleteWow, these are neat. The babies are too cute.
ReplyDeleteTiny hairy loafs of bread.
Deletesuper tiny.
Very cute.
DeleteThey are cute critters. I wonder what that one thinks, sniffing at the flowers.
ReplyDeleteNo flowers, he ate all the fern
DeleteThey're cute, I'll trade you and alligator for one. Had no idea they were related to hippopotami.
ReplyDeletethanks but no thanks !
DeleteI love my clan
Thanks for the information. I noticed that Shelly commented that they look like the wild boars we have in Florida. Wild boars can be dangerous. Are Javelinas prone to attack people?
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Javelinas are very protective of the babies.
DeleteThey form a circle with the babies inside.
They have razor sharp teeth and even the tiny babies can rip into you.
They really have poor eyesight and rely on smell.
Stupid people who let their dogs run free are upset when the dogs (who run towards them) get attacked.
What lovely visitors! Javelinas are adorable. The babies are so tiny and cute...they are really like little loaf of bread :-) I love the photo of a javelina checking out the pot!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday and have a wonderful new week xoxo
I love them always have.
DeleteHello Parsnip, what lovely visitors you get in your garden and so cute these little ones :)
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Roos
I am very lucky to have them visit.
DeleteAnd the babies are super cute !
Those peccary are delightful beasts!
ReplyDeleteLots of people think they are ugly but I love them !
DeleteWhatever family they belong to, they're cute!
ReplyDeleteYes very cute.
DeleteLove the tiny feet !
I have a vague memory of a Dick-and-Jane primer I read in I guess the first or second grade in which baby sister Sally goes to the zoo for the first time and mistakes a hippopotamus for a pig.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Dick, Jane and Sally all lived in Arizona.
I wonder too.
DeleteI remember Dick and Jane but I was reading before school
so I don't really remember to much.
That is a very funny story, Must look it up.
Far too cute!
ReplyDeleteI think so too.
DeleteAwww! How very cute. I'm surprised that they're not related to pigs though!
ReplyDeleteI have a great children's book call "Don't Call Me Pig"
DeleteThose are cute. So, if they're related to hippos, they're related to whales, too, right? Woah!
ReplyDeleteYes, they are related but a "gallzillion" years ago !
DeleteBut I love throwing out that fact.
I can't share your love of those little things but they have a certain type of wild cuteness--I guess. My dad used to use javelina as a term of endearment. I guess he thought they were cute too.
ReplyDeleteawwwww so cute look at the tiny tiny tiny feet !
DeleteHow nice when you have unexpected visitors! They are cute, especially the babies......such dainty little feet!
ReplyDeleteThey are very cute but.... oh they are very protective of the babies.
DeleteThey look attractive and lovable, but quite large! hopefully they are good natured!
ReplyDeleteThey look very sweet, to me, but you don't want to mess with them.
DeleteCan you safely go outside when they are there Gayle. How would they react or are they so used to you they don't mind?
