parley view parsnip. . . The Book !

Many times I have been asked about the very large black bird
in my library. It is a book.
One of Daughters degrees is in Book Arts.
This was one of her final projects.
And I got to keep it when she was moving around.

When you lift the wing the book slides out

As you can see there are no words.
But a map of the birds world and travels

I am so lucky to be able to have this book in my home.
What a wonderful vision Daughter has.

This was for a friends trip to London and Paris
.
One of my handmade haiku books.
You have seen this one before but I didn't have any photos
of my newest small books that are really more like cards.

  1. No prizes for guessing where your daughter gets her talent from.
The boys are looking fine - thanks to their Mum.

    1. Thank You Pat
But she is just so much more talented.
She has a style that is all her own that is years beyond anything I have done.

  2. I love the bird. I'm surprised you dare to take him outside. What if he flew away? Good morning, thehamish.

    Love,

    1. Daughter has done so many different books.
      Many foldout.
Why don't you try one that is folded into a tin or box ?

    2. I'm thinking of a Poe tie-in for next year. I do a lot of lapbooking with kids.

    3. I think you could try a 2 dimensional book that could open up.
I did a cloud book that way for a friends birthday.

    1. I didn't see the Crufts this year. I usually try to watch but I was so busy with thehamish.
Now I must zoom and look it up.

  7. How do you stand so much cuteness? Anyway, did you know Penny (from Penniless Hearts) majored in graphic arts but specialized in bookmaking and binding? :)

    1. I wish daughter could have gone to work somewhere with her degrees in Books. But you need to know someone even though Mills is the last Collage that has a degree in Book Arts. She knows how to repair, bind, print and make books.
But what your mum wants is trumped by outside forces.

  10. I really really love the book your daughter made. Who would think the bird is a book! Especially when it's outside, the bird looks so real. Love that beak! I love your haiku books, too. They are so beautiful and soothing!

Your square ones are looking great :-) Have a wonderful day!

    1. Well someone needs to know how to make. repair and take care of books.
And it is my Daughter ! I wish she could have found a job in that field.
When she was at University, Mills was the last school who still taught this class.
The world is not just IT people. But I think we are losing the joy of books.
