Wednesday In Japan. . . Kitazawa Seed Company

Yes !
The Kitazawa Seed Catalog has come.
Instead of working on my morning chores,
I have been sitting here and reading, dreaming and planning.
Now if you knew my very small garden you would be laughing.
Even though I have a lot of land I also have a lot of critters
that are just waiting for me to plant.
The awful pack rats being the worst offender.
So I have a small side yard the is completely screened in to keep unwanted
critters out.
I am alread late in planting the carrots, radishes and shishito.
.........
 .
 .
I plant in big pots, so I don't get a huge amount of "crop"
but what I do harvest is wonderful
I can't decide from mini Sweet or Scarlet Red.
.
 Of course Shishito peppers.
My very favorite peppers ever !

 I love French Breakfast
or maybe I will try Shirahime Hatsuka Daikon.
.
 Plus recipes !

 Thursday, Daughter is coming over.
This sounds so great.
.
It seems my two favorite citrus trees might have surived.
The Tangelo tree in front is only 1/3 the size it was.
It was damaged  7 years ago in the hard freeze.
The smaller Sweet Orange tree in back I am letting go wild.
It shelters so many small critters during the super hot summer.
And it still produces a nice crop of very sweet oranges.

 .
 ..........................

And just because I can here is your pretty (?) for mid week.
.
ummmmmm Dr. Watson what is happening here ?
Did little Racoon run into trouble ?
More to come on Friday.

dreaming. . . parsnip
music. . .  The Heart Of Rock And Roll,  Huey Lewis and The News

  1. It's fun to dream about planting seeds, I'm going to try growing beets. The cabbage stew recipe looks great. That's a lot of fruit on your citrus trees!

  2. That looks very interesting catalog! Shabu shabu garden sounds great :-) I like shishito, especially when coming as part of yakitori. Yum!
Your citrus trees look pretty. Glad they survived and how nice you get to have fresh fruit right from the tree!

    1. Shabu Shabu and Yakitori, yes please !
The trees survived but they are very old. The are fine when it freezes but the hard freeze down to 20 or 18 is so bad for them.

  4. Planting time, sigh, we're still a ways away from that. It's warm here, but it won't last.

    1. Nope I have to get ready, last year there was way too much going on.
I only had tomatoes because they kept producing for over a year.
We really had no winter so they just kept going.

  5. When my parents had a vegetable garden, seed catalogues were part of the package every year. My dad, however, didn't like gardening, so there came a point where he gradually kept reducing the size of the vegetable garden!

I don't get much produce but it is lovely to have, looks very pretty and gets me outside.

  6. All those seed catalogs make me tired! Glad your trees survived. We're kind of sort of looking at getting a Meyer lemon but...that means work!

  7. Oh you naughty square one! That looks like a disembowelled raccoon to me.

Yes, parsnip, I get seduced by seed catalogues too. There is nothing nicer on a cold day than sitting by the fire and dreaming of the summer garden.
