Wednesday in Japan, Hanami...

Hanami, literally means flower viewing.
It is the traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers.

It usually takes place in spring with the viewing of Sakura, the Cherry Blossoms.
Every where all over Japan people are sitting under the Cherry Trees with family, and friends usually enjoying a meal, from elaborate to simple.
What a wonderful custom.
I hope next year I can be well enough to travel and see the Sakura Blooms.

This photo was just sent to me from David and family at a Sakura viewing in their neighborhood.
Beautiful !

  1. Hello Gayle:
What a wonderful experience it would be to sit under the cherry blossom in the land of their origin.

  3. Cherry blossoms in Japan would have to be one of the most beautiful floral events in the world, Parsnip, but sadly over all too soon.

  5. I hope you are well enough next year, too. I used to know someone who lived in a house called Sakura, I didn't know what it meant until now.

    1. Yes I am aiming for that.
What a lovely name for the home. I want to name my home like they do in the UK but I can't think up one that I like.

  7. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the cherry blossoms in Washington DC. They were a gift from Japan.
