Remember the Great Wall of China . . .

Square Dog Friday is here.
Best day of the week !

Good News first !

Remember the Great Wall of China ?
Forget it !

We now have
The Great Wall Of thehamish !

..

....
We had to remove the steps that were on the west side of the bed. No more up and down because of his back.
So I had a ramp built for him. It is carpeted, and has openings for gud dugs and katties.
We still pick him up and down carefully but in the middle of the night if he needs to go outside,
it is now easier for thehamish to wake up Son to take him out.
Not sure why he wakes up Son to take him out now ?  I was the one who always got up with the
gud dugs but it is just fine with me.  I get so little sleep now so any hour here or there
is much needed.

I am working on 3 or 4 small watch towers to finish The Great Wall look.
Plus add the angle wall piece.  The sides on the top are because he has very
little eyesight left. Just enough to help him remember where he is.

Why it is so big is we had to have a nice easy ramp to walk up.
His ACL has completely crossed over his back legs and
we now have to be so careful of his back and legs.
I lurve my sweet baboo.

.......

Now the bad news.
Son and I have been at the vet everyday. We thought thehamish was "okish" and then he dropped
out so fast.  In 2 week he bottomed out.
We found everything is a huge mess again, his pancreas, liver, kidneys and bladder are all under attack. His pancreas is "hot" and really messed up again.
He is on a new diet that I cook for him and several new meds.
We are watching him very close. Right now he is sort of okish.

But everyday he wakes up with a smile. Scotties smile big time.
He is my only luxury.
I lurve him.
....
So today I am leaving you with some happy happy gud dug thehamish
photos  for your weekend pretty.

Thank you all for the wonderful and touching comments on Wednesday's post.
thehamish and I Thank You so much.

cheers,  parsnip

  3. Hi, Gayle!

I admire thehamish's fighting spirit and courage as well as yours. That Great Wall Of thehamish is an architectural marvel - the eighth wonder of the world. We bought a ramp for Toto to use for that same purpose but, sadly, she never used it. It was tough near the end because we needed to carry her up and down any and all stairs. I am keeping my fingers crossed that thehamish will rebound and enjoy a lot more of his gud dog life there with you. Have a good holiday weekend, dear friend Gayle!

  7. I had a ramp for my pig--not to get on the bed, but to get in and out of the house. She was really fat and had arthritis.

Hamish is a gift, Gayle. Treasure every minute with him.

  14. He looks so proud and happy about his Great Wall Of Hamish there posing on and by
it. The ramp is a great idea, and you have it planned so well with katty holes too, and side walls so H. doesn't fall over the edge. Our little Fuzzy is 12 now and sometimes has some arthritic stiffness. I worry about him falling when jumping up or down off of the chair. We were going to get him some steps to get up on his favorite recliner, but I am thinking now that we need to look for a ramp instead for when he gets older.

  18. Not only is thehamish a handsome lad, he's very considerate, too. Quite the gentleman. I think he purposely wakes your son at night so you can sleep. He knows you aren't feeling up to snuff, either, and the two of you are taking care of each other.

His wall is a thing of beauty, and fit for royalty. He couldn't have picked a better mama.

have a super weekend, and a very happy 4th of July to you.

  21. Oh, thehamish, that is one awesome structure your tall persons have built for you, you lucky boy ! I'm so glad that you are able to use it to get on and off the bed. My paws are tightly crossed that you will weather this storm, and come through it with that lovely smile on your handsome face.
