WILDFIRE ! Here we go again !

A few of long time followers know
I lost my home in the 1993 Laguna Beach Wildfire.
.
Early Wednesday when I walked outside, it was a super hot and windy day
I could smell a fire.
A wildfire smells different from anything else.

And about 2:30pm when Daughter came up to see me she called,
"I see the smoke and the fire driving up your road".
It was somewhat close and I have already lost one house to a wildfire.
.

 Sunset, smoke, wind and fire.
Dangerous beauty.
.

I took these with my phone. The white dot to the right is really part of the
fire coming up a canyon to the east.

.
View of the fire from my bedroom.

.

.
Look for the S in Sabino Canyon
then look for the E in E. Sunrise Drive
Right in the middle is where my home is.
.
This morning I woke up to clouds, grey sky, cooler temperatures
and drizzling rain.

I cropped the photo to about where the fire burned on the sides.
It dropped down into the canyon in the middle and then popped up.
The Forest Service decided against water drops and monitor it .
It is in a very rocky area filled with scrub brush that needed to cleared.
Seems they knew what they were doing plus  I think
many of our USFS fire squads are in California !

  1. I can appreciatejust how worried you were after previous experience Gayle. Do hope you can relax now - no doubt pleased to see the cooler, damper conditions. Hope they last for a while.

    1. After your home burns down once you are so over it. You have already lost all the precious things you had, photos, drawings, letters the family christening gown.
My daughter was quite upset and Japanese son was concerned.
I just sat out side and took some photos.

    2. After you have your home burned the first time, it's no big deal.
You have already lost everything that means anything to you, photos, letters, children's drawings the family christening gown.
Daughter was upset, and Japanese son was concerned, I took photos.

  2. Oh, my gosh! I don't know how you got any sleep, especially with your history in Laguna Beach. This is a celebration for sure. So thankful that the fire died down. God bless you, parsnip.

  6. I am not a long-time follower and didn't know your home burned. Willy Dunne Wooters would agree with you that it's no big deal. At one time he was unemployed and living in his car. He says there's nothing he can't do without. He has had an excellent job for quite some time, and is the most generous person I know.

    Love,

  8. Scary, we watched one burn in the mountains above us when we lived in Southern California. Didn't come close, but it was worrisome. I think California burns every year. We use to say we had 3 seasons out there, rainy, earthquake and fire. Stay safe.

  10. How terrifying! I'm glad that little bit of rain helped and I'm hoping for more rain to make sure the fire is out. Your sunset picture is amazing.
