Wednesday In Japan. . . coffee

Some of the best coffee I have ever had, has been in Japan.
In the hot summer months they make the very best Iced Coffee.
Just iced coffee no whipped cream, caramel, chocolate, syrup flavoring
or sprinkles. No sprinkles in coffee !
On cake, yes please but not in my coffee.
 .
I ordered a Japanese cold coffee maker.
You brew the coffee over night in the refrigerator.
Daughter makes hers with her old Melita drip maker.
I am hoping this might help me with the acid (?)  in the coffee.
Coffee and my new medicines are not playing nice lately.
If you want it hot you can microwave it.
But in the summer iced coffee even in the morning is just so good.
Especially if it is 85+ at 7 am.

 New coffee maker
.
 Fun directions in Japanese.
.
Take re-usable coffee filter and fill to the line with coffee.
Using my blog friend wonderful Holy Cow Coffee Company coffee.
.
 Insert in jar.
.
Slowly pour good filtered water to the very top slowly over the coffee.
Your coffee is only as good as your water.
.
Then you let it sleep over night in the refrigerator.
Night night, sweet dreams.

yummmmmmmmm !   I had one glass this morning and we shall see how I do.
It was so good.
.

Here is your pretty for mid week.
Follower Em, thought the rain didn't look right in my last post.
The summer monsoons are needed but can be very dangerous and destructive.
Not at all like the wonderful and much needed Winter rains, that soak into the earth.
Summer monsoons are fast moving storms.  Rain and wind traveling across the Tucson valley. Leaving a torrent of swift moving runoff that takes rocks, boulders, trees, cars
and people who think they can cross.  The swift running water flows in the streets
to the washes then into the rivers.
.
Not all the storms are destructive but many are.
Here are a few photos from past summers.

  1. Sorry about that. I've been trying to comment on your last two posts but have been prevented by dark mysterious forces in the universe...or my Wifi is acting up again. Woe.

The photos on Monday of thehamish upside down, stretched out and with wee pink tongue sticking out just killed me...and the close up of Watson was wonderful. Gud dugs! The coffee looks so delicious. Thank goodness for directions that also include a pictorial to follow...or do you read/speak Japanese too you clever thing?

    1. No problem.... I have comcast and it is a mess... plus my computer has finally said "that it I am done, bury me today" !
thehamish is a hoot what a strange wee (I love when you and my UK friends use that word) little gud dug.
Watson has dementia and is deaf, so when he wakes he really doesn't know where he is. Or if you wake him up he is startled. So you have to be careful and pet him till he sorta remembers were he is.
I wish I was clever, I am rather a plank... I don't know Japanese but I am trying to learn. Rosetta Stone here I come.
When I am in Japan I pick it up some what... I know words and phases. The more you listen and speak the better you get.
One trip I was there the major Sumo contest was on TV. I love Sumo, it is super interesting and the judges, referees (?) wear the most beautiful robes. I was entertained and my Japanese was getting better.
My just turned 4 year old Japanese granddaughter speaks both Japanese and English fabulously.
She is coming for I visit so I will have her teach me Japanese.

  2. Beautiful post. I was connecting the water from the monsoon to the coffee water in your Japanese brewer thingie and licking my lips thinking about the excitement of a new pot of fresh iced coffee made in harmony with nature.

  4. Nifty gadget. For coffee, I prefer the preparation on the other end of Asia. I like it thick.

I do have pleasant associations with coffee in Japan, though. I loved the hot cans you could buy from the vending machines - best way to keep your hands warm on a cold train platform.

    1. I miss the hot cans of coffee.
But I must admit I love the chilled ones with Japanese milk. So good.

  6. Oh how cool! I've never seen iced coffee maker before. It must be quite handy especially in summer. I like drip bag coffee from Japan - the kind for one cup, you set the drip bag on cup and pour hot water.
The photos of the sky are gorgeous! Is it rain that I see in some photos? Such scenery I don't see very often.

P.S. I always thought thehamish and Watson are kind of like Goro and Niko, as in naughty and sweet :-)

  7. Did you ever live there? And if not, would you ever consider moving there?

    1. Son and his wife's family lives there. I use to visit all the time, then my health took a turn for the worst.
I have lots of family, friends and I miss them very much. I am hoping for a early winter visit.
Son is a university professor and will maybe be sent to his schools New Zealand sister school for a year to fire and hire some new teachers and get it into shape. . So I need to visit Osaka this year.
I would move to Japan in a second (considering some problems I have with this administration) I really love the people and places I have been. But it has many problems also (just not as bad as living in a border state and town.)
But I will stay here and maybe live there 4 months out of the year . Who knows ?

    2. 4 months out of the year sounds very nice. My husband's mom does that, but in the states.
They seem to enjoy splitting their time, and rarely have to worry about winter. They just
state hop to avoid it all together.

  9. As usual, beautiful cloud photos Parsnip. That coffee sounds good. I had a friend who used to drink a lot of coffee and then began to have terrible indigestion and not be well at all. She finally found out that it was the coffee and had to stop drinking it altogether - since when she has been fine.
