Moving day and a card. . .

Three days ago I looked out my studio window and saw a bee hive ?
Now I know I really don't see that well anymore but a hive built in a night ?

Right side of Tangelo tree above the orange, there is a rather large hive.

I call my Bee Man and yes, I have a Bee Man along with the Tree Surgeon
that are trying to save the last remaining citrus trees.

He tells me this is not a hive. Just a ball (swarm) of bees. They are just resting having a break, kicking back with a Gin and Tonic,  checking out the area to see if they like it.
If they do like the area then they will build a hive.
I love bees although I am allergic.
So just as long as these are not the Africanized bees that have zoomed up from Mexico (they will have to be destroyed) they can stay around, just not where they are now.

  1. Lovely birthday card Parsnip. We would also call that a swarm of bees - what happens here when they arrive is that a beekeeper comes along with a large cardboard box and taps them into it - they go in happily because they are sticking close to the queen. The he takes the swarm away and puts them into a new hive.

  2. I am hoping that for my swarm.
I hope they are not the Africanized ones. They just killed two dogs and attacked several people in Green Valley (half way between me and the border of Mexico)
The bees around my home have been so sparse the last two years that I am very happy to see them but not in this spot.
I will have to call the Bee Man and set up an appointment.

  6. We had the same outside our main gate. We warned a neighbour and it turned out they were his bees which he hadn't told anyone about.
It is a lovely Birthday card.

  8. We had a clump like that in our bushes several months ago. If they stay for more than a day then they are building a hive inside of the ball, ours ended up being almost 2' in diameter. Bee man eventually had to cut up the tree to get it out.

  10. I do hope the bees move away from your yard since you are allergic! The swarm looks very interesting though. We once had a bee hive inside our wall, the bees are long gone, but still some honey drips in the hot weather. Your Daughter's Birthday card is pretty!

  11. Quite a card!

It's always best to keep bees at something of a distance...
