Goodbye

.
We didn't think it would happen so soon.
thehamish has always been able to bounce back from all of his health problems.
But not this time.
On Wednesday he went into massive renal failure and had 3 "seizures"
We thought after each one he would just stop breathing and go to sleep
but he always fought back.
At midnight we drove across town to the specially doctor and helped him let go to see Watson.
thehamish died at 2am.

We kept telling him to go see Watson who was waiting for him,
two years is too long for a gud dug to wait.

As my Japaneses Son wrote me  "I'm sure he's in doggy heaven with Watson
telling him how much fun chasing lizards is"
.
My heart is breaking, Watson and thehamish saved my life.
In an abusive marriage these gud dugs were there for me.
.

He loved everyone he was such a gud dug.

Goodbye sweet baboo !
Have lots of fun with Watson.

It is so hard walking into the house and thehamish is not waiting for me
by the door.  I miss him so much.

I will post some photos later but for now I will be taking some time off from blogging.

cheers,  gayle

  1. So sorry, my friend. Dogs are amazing for what they can bring to our lives. My most recent dog died nearly 30 years ago. I still miss him.

  2. God bless thehamish. I will always remember him, Gayle. I am terribly sorry for your loss. I share this pain with you. Please think of your two handsome square dogs reunited and happy together on Rainbow Bridge with my Toto and all the rest of the pets that people loved and lost.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

  4. Gayle, I'm so sorry, I know how devastated you must be. They're not not just part of our lives, they're part of our souls and when they go they take that part with them. Loved his smile and it will live on in all of us who got to see it.
Take the time you need to heal.

  10. Oh gosh, Gayle - I'm so sorry..I'm in tears to know thehamish has departed. We knew he wasn't doing well but I could never ever be prepared for this. I'm grateful, though, that he had a full life loved and cared so deeply. Now he is reunited with his Watson, running, jumping, and playing together. Please know my thoughts are with you. Sending hugs and love to you. Tamago

  11. Gayle I write this with tears in my eyes for that sweet Baboo - the dear Hamish - life and soul of your life since Watson went. Now he has gone to
join his old pal Watson in doggy heaven and it has put an end to his suffering. Give Mandibles lots of cuddles, take comfort in him - I am
so pleased they had those few weeks together. Much love

  13. I am so very sorry Gayle. No one loved their dog more. I've always said to all that when I die I want to go to dog heaven. I'll look for Watson and Ham along with all the loves of my life. May your tears dry soon and find comfort with Fergus. Such pain, but so much love. Try to hang on to that dear.

  17. Gayle, I'm so sorry. I understand your need to take some time away from blogging to deal with the loss. Hamish is with Watson now, and neither of them are sick or in pain anymore. Take some small measure of comfort in that. Hugs to you and to Fergus, too.

  19. I'm so very sorry for your loss. No dog was more loved or more cared for throughout his life. I often wish that when my time comes I could be as well loved and cared for...Few people come to the natural end of their lives as peacefully. Please take comfort in the sure knowledge that whatever physical discomfort he experienced was far surpassed by being with you surrounded by such love. They know. Never doubt that. You were the best caretaker anyone could want and he knew you loved him.

I will miss stopping by for updates on Hamish but look forward to watching the little one grow. What a lucky boy to have ended up with you.

  31. So sorry Gayle, to read Hamish has past away. But if there was a home for dogs like yours I would not hasitate to be a dog and come to stay there. Hamish had a most wonderful, and loving person to be taken care of. And that is you Gayle. It hurts and you will miss him but the memories will be sweet.
    Take care,
    Roos
