Sabino Canyon and Me !

Posted here are some photos from my trip (3 minutes from my home) to
Saguaro National Park East.
This was on 4 January, my Birthday.

We had a hard freeze several years ago and this cholla cactus was damaged
but it grows on.

Several windows in the Information Center frame lovely views.
Always my favorite place to take photos.
.

Bumpy photos from the tram ride up and down Sabino Canyon.

Yes we have a beach in Tucson !

 And water in the river.

 Vaper trails.

I so wanted this rock !
It was large and very beautiful.

On the right lower part of the white rock was some silver mica that sparkles in the sun light.
But not for my camera.
I love rocks and have my eyes down to the ground as much as they are up looking at the sky.

This is a photo of a post card. showing you one of the bridges over the river.
they are charming but narrow. When they are repaired they use the same plans so they look the same
 but with  newer materials.
.

On the day daughter sent me this photo of where she lives
a few day after she got back home from Tucson...

 .
...this is how my day looked.

A very healthy looking coyote, about the size of a German Shepard.

Large herd of Javelinas about 20+
Several tiny babies. One of the twins was much smaller than the other and I worry .

As always here is you pretty for the middle of the week.

.
We grow the scorpions big here !

.
A basket of baby Javelinas.
Yes, I bought one. I really wanted all of them !

javelina. . . parsnip
music. . . Castle On The Hill,  Ed Sheeran

  1. Hi, Gayle!

Thanks for showing us the various sections of Saguaro National Park East. Mrs. Shady and I were there two summers ago and saw some of those sights. I remember it well. It was July, around 108 degrees, and she insisted that we start driving back through the park on less than a quarter tank of gas. I was sweating it out, literally, hoping we wouldn't get stranded out there. I love your shots of the coyote, the prickly pear and the peccaries. It almost looks like the Javelinas are using the cactus as a scratching post. Do they? I hope the runt of the litter won't be abandoned by the herd.

I would love to have that plush stuffed scorpion! Mrs. Shady would probably be afraid of it because she got stung by a scorpion a few years ago. I'll bet thehamish would like to dive into that basket of baby Javelinas. :)

Thank you for playing show and tell, dear friend Gayle. Looks like you had a great time on your birthday!

    1. I think your were at the West park in the Tucson Mountains.
This is the East park on the other side of town where I live in the Catalina foothills.

    2. Also they will not leave the baby they will protect it till it grows up or dies. Winter babies will get pneumonia if the weather turns really cold. The pack will sleep around it to keep the little ones warm. I haven't heard any coughs yet.

    1. When I am in Japan the mantra is " step away from the table".
Or "you can only look do not touch".

  3. I definitely prefer where you live to where your daughter lives, don't like snow. I'm a sucker for stuffed critters I'd have bought 2 of everything.

    1. Daughter has great friends and loves living there except for the snow, ice, sleet and freezing rain.

  4. Stark but beautiful. Those cacti certainly are durable plants.

That is quite a herd of javelinas!

The coyote must be on the lookout for a roadrunner.

    1. William, if you look at # 17 from the "V" look down to a slash just a bit down that is parallel
That is a trail that goes around the outcropping. There was a tiny speck of yellow and red up there but you can not see it on this photo. It is a great trail for you to walk.

    1. Thank you for lovely compliment, your photos of the same place are so fabulous. I just held my phone and clicked . Plus you always see so many birds and animals on your walks. I have to take the tram if I want to go up the canyon.
The water was still flowing over several bridges. It was such a wonderful day.

  6. I am not a fan of cactus, but those saguaros are awesome. Our plant center had some large sculpted ones out of boxwood this year but at $600. I wasn't biting.

    1. I grew up around them so I love them.
You could make the boxwood if you feel like waiting for them to grow,
A saguaro bought from a license nursery can be extremely expensive.

  7. Oh for some of that beautiful blue sky here. Aren't those javelinas lovely - I have never heard of them before.

  8. That hazardous bridge sign shouldn't crack me up, but it does!

That coyote probably has a hankering for young pork. Hope you don't see carnage in your back yard. It's one of those things you know happens but would rather not actually witness.

  9. Such beautiful pictures! How nice you live so close to the park :-) When I was small, I collected some rocks. I loved finding many different colors and shapes. Javelinas are so adorable. I hope the small baby will grow big and healthy xo

  10. Gayle, thank you for sharing that Canyon with us. It's so good to be reminded of just how many varied landscapes our country includes. I'm being a little philosophical.... xo
