Too hot to fry an egg on the sidewalk !

HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT
Did I say it was hot in Tucson.
Every News Channel have been broadcasting warning about the heat.
But of course there are many who do not listen.
Four deaths yesterday, people who should have know better, hikers.

Today just down from my home another hiker has been missing since yesterday.
115 and this person decides to go hiking ? The searchers left at 6 this morning to
start up the trail again. I hope he is found and OK, but like fast water rescues in the monsoons I want him to cover the costs. People need to be responsible.
Hottest day in 22 years and he thinks, wow I need to go on a hike today !

Fires all over Arizona.
Several around the Tucson area.  The two biggest ones started on the border with mexico.
Both were man made.

You know it is too hot in Tucson when the Prickly Pear Cactus start folding over,
This has never happened to me before. Even with some watering there is nothing you can do
against two dry years, high temperatures and hot winds.

This Prickly Pear is loaded with fruit like the cactus knew to make as many seeds as possible.
.................

Here are a few photos from a few years ago when it was unofficially 117 at my home.

Resting in the cool dirt.

    1. Well it is hot but unlike the crazy hikers above. . . you are back home by 9 or 10 and you don't go back out unless you have too. You stay indoors and do projects like the people who have 7 feet of snow in their yard. I'm trying to clean a closet.
thehamish is out early in the morning for his morning sniffs but during the day he is out and back in really fast.

  2. I feel your pain, as hot as it is here, I know you're much worse. The poor critters out there are lucky to have your pond. As to lost hikers, some people need to be taken out of the gene pool.
Stay cool, you and the Hamish.

    1. I am not sure I am worst than you. Yes it is very hot you skin prickles and burns as you go out. But you have humidity, we will have, hope if the monsoons come. then the temps will drop into the 110 and below.
Crazy hikers 3 of them were hiking instructors that should know better.

  3. That is just too dang hot! We will hit 90 degrees today in NH...and that's too dang hot for up here too. But I just pulled up some snow bank photos from last winter (7 ft. high they were) and that has helped to adjust my disposition considerably! LOL. Happy summer solstice Gayle and thehamish. X

  4. I've been watching your temps. Ours dropped a few degrees and I can tell it plus the humidity level went down so it doesn't feel like 115. I read those purple cactus fruits make wonderful jam.

    1. Yes the fruit is rally good. It makes jam, jelly, syrup and the fruit is good also but you havve to get the prickles off, cut the skin off and cut around the seeds. The seeds are very tiny and you can eat them but they are super hard so you must be careful.

  5. It's super not here but instead of camouflaged bunnies, we have the ants marching in to get away from the heat! LOL

    1. I remember when it was hot in Laguna the ants would march into the house when it got hot or before an earthquake.

  7. Goodness, that heat is oppressive! My sister was visiting out your way and on the day she left it was 111 degrees! Yikes, I complain in the 90s. I'd be laid out like the rabbit in your photo.

thehamish has the right idea! He looks so happy with his fountain.

    Love and hugs, buddy.

  8. It was shockingly pleasant here today. Franklin and I went for a long walk this evening. On the hottest and most humid days, though, I see people out running, and they have no water bottles with them--unless they somehow hide the bottle in their shorts. On the hot days, Franklin and Penelope stay in the office with me, positioned so the fan blows on them. Hugs to you and kisses to thehamish.

    Love,
    Janie

Hope you and the Hamish are staying cool. Are the fires close to you?

    1. Anything over 110 is no big deal, just melted asphalt.

  11. Parsnip, I hope that the historic heat will take a break soon. But I would imagine that July and August might be hotter still?

Just seeing thehamish having a bit of a splash is refreshing.

The cactus are so beautiful, even in their relaxed poses.

    Enjoy that air conditioning. xo
