Square Dog Friday. . . update on thehamish

Well here it is again the best day of the week.
Square Dog Friday !
Let's woof it.
.
thehamish before his appointment with History !
At least in his mind
.
He went for his appointment with the specialist and all turned out great.
His insides are looking good and he does not have Cushing.
Yea !
But we still don't know why he is having these episodes.
I think it might have something to do with his diabetes or his eyes
but I just don't know.

So I am now tracking his time between his insulin shots.
The vet wants 12 hours between shots which can be very hard on him and me.

He is on a Gastro Intestinal Low Fat canned dog food,
to keep his peritonitis under control but he gets very hungry by dinner time.
He is on a limited diet and has few choices for any extras, not even carrots !
thehamish loves carrots, he is a little bun bun.
.
He was still somewhat drugged when we picked him up.

....

He was quite miffed and he wouldn't look at me.
.
I think it was because when I dropped him off early at the Vet he stood there head down
as I was talking to the assistant. He looked at her, looked at me and then walked to the door.
He stood there touching the door with the top of his head.
He wanted to go home, he was not very happy.
It was so sad, I was in tears when I saw that.
.........
A few days before  the doctors visit
I was sitting outside with him playing a easy game of toss.

Suddenly he became Adventure Dog !
The small yellow toy bounced under the sage plant.

 i thehamish huntin' for toy

 huntin'huntin' huntin'

i thehamish thinkin' i thehamish is findin' it
(you can see it to the right of his head)

 i thehamish is findin' it

 i got's the toy

action shot of i thehamish jumpin' over the grand canyon
i thehamish is adventure dog
.
then i thehamish destroyed  the toy lookin' for the treasure

 see i gud adventure dug

i thehamish found the squeak treasure but not chkikin'
yert
..........

And as alway here is your pretty for the start of the weekend.
.
It is very warm here about 84/56. Not our typical February.
This is the cold month that we usually get our winter rain.
But right now it is spring weather and I want rain !
The nice part of this weather is we have had some wonderful sunsets.
.

 Sunset views from the backyard.
.

Plus a pretty moon shot from the day before.
.
happy. . . parsnip
music. . . Summertime,  The Zombies

  1. Beautiful photos, Gayle!

So it's a mixed bag for Hamish? Both of you will always be in my prayers. We had a dog who had Cushing's and eventually, we had to have her euthanized. At one point, she bit part of her own tail off, she was itching so badly.

  3. Hi, Gayle!

I am very happy to know thehamish is AOK. All older dogs have their chronic ailments, but thehamish seems to be enjoying life, including his secret one as the super hero Adventure Dog. :) He is a very gud dog and I love to see pictures of him!

Gosh, you were just in the middle of a hard freeze and now the temp is in the mid 80s! That's quite a turn around! Enjoy your weekend, dear friend!

  4. Sometimes they almost break our hearts don't they Gayle? Pleased to hear that he is not too bad at present. My daughter in law has Cushing and has had her pituitary gland removed - not pleasant.

  5. Such a handsome fellow is thehamish. Will continue to hold a good thought that he'll have many years ahead of him to keep you company. Your yard is so beautiful. Love the use of river rocks in landscaping. X

  6. YAY! So glad to hear thehamish doesn't have Cushing's disease. I'm so glad your gud adventure dog is doing better... and feeling up to having more adventures.

Gorgeous pictures of the sky! It's warm here, too, but not as warm as what you've got. Gonna be near seventy this weekend, which sounds just about right to me.

Have a super weekend! Cuddle that cute pup for me.

  13. I'm so happy that thehamish got a good result from the specialist! Insulin shots and limited diet, etc. things are not easy for both of you but he is a very lucky dug to get such great care and love. Oh I hate to leave my boys at the vet. Every time I dropped off Niko for dental, I felt like crying. I'm glad thehamish is home now with you.
Love the photo of him being adventure dog :-) Have a happy weekend!

  14. 12 hours between meals is rough. Sister is diabetic and of course Emmy eats what she eats. I have to cook the meals since Sister wouldn't eat the diabetic dog food. I just do the best I can. 9 am and 4 pm. They both were having stomach issues so I have omitted the ground flax seeds and ground chia seeds and am just adding oat bran and some of the hard dog food with ground chicken, venison and/or chicken livers. Their stomachs seem to have settled down. I'll wait and see. Ham looks good.

    1. I have heard that cats only need one shot ? But thehamish need two, 12 hours apart. I was doing 10 which is easier. Tracking his episodes. Plus monday is a visit to the eye doctor.
      Who knows what is wrong.

    1. I often wonder what he thinks about all the eye drops (7) a day and the 2 insulin shots he gets a day for all these years.
He does get a his chicken after every shot and drop so I guess it is OK.

  16. I have recently changed our doggie's food as there has been quite a lot of publicity regarding the colours and additives used in various brands. Sadie "woofs" her food down so I put a ball in her dish of food and it does tend to slow her down. She does have a disgusting habbit however - of eating her own you know what! Yuck. We are looking into it - the problem that is, not the other.

  17. It is good news that Hamish doesn`t have Cushings. Enough for him ( and you) to deal with his diabetes. Dear old boy. He must have been so happy to come home! Thinking of you.x
