parley view parsnip . . . weekend in Tucson

A few photos of this and that.
.

On Friday I made Gyudon, a Donburi type of rice bowl.
Gyudon has thin sliced beef and onions with a sweet sauce served over rice topped with pickled red ginger.
I didn't want to take time to make any dashi for the sauce. I just used some chicken broth.
Added some tiny sweet red peppers to the beef and onions to fluff it up.
I didn't have any pickled red ginger but I did have some shishito peppers.
Just a quick saute and added them to the bowl.
So fast and super tasty.
.....
Sunday afternoon the winds picked up as a cold front zoomed down on Tucson.
Rain and snow will be here Sunday night to Monday morning.
The storm is pulling in some very cold temps with hard freeze warning for Tuesday night.

 Sunday sunset.

with the storm clouds zooming in.

As always here is your pretty to start the week !

Before Daughter drove across the U.S. for her new job/ internship she was looking for a few things stored at my home. This jacket was one of them. When she put it down on sofa in the studio guess who curled up and fell asleep on it.
When thehamish sees any sort of packing unpacking he know something is happening
that he does not like. He gets very upset.
.
But I made sure he had some fun time playing with his giggle ball.

  1. Hi, dear Gayle!

Mrs. Shady loves to cook and experiment with new recipes. I will tell her about your Gyudon dish. It's a lovely presentation and looks delish. It is hard for me to imagine a hard freeze in Tuscon. When Mrs. S and I visited the temp was above 100. You captured more storm cloud drama and I thank you for posting. God bless he thehamish. Curling up on that jacket is his way of letting you know that he is happy with the status quo. I wish I could toss the ball with him!

    1. February really is our winter. Rain and/or snow every few day then sunshine. So really a few weeks of winter is just fine.

  2. Tess is just the same. Once a basket or a suitcase is got out of the boxroom she begins to fret, sure that we are leaving her. She needs a lot of reassurance just as the Hamish does. I tell her I love her - as I am sure you do with the H - but not sure they always understand.
    That food looks delicious.
And don't you live in a beautiful setting.

    1. I really am so lucky to live here.
Suitcases are worst than vacuum around here.

  3. It is gorgeous. Hopefully, it won't stay below freezing long enough to hurt your citrus. My weenies go hide when I start packing. Even though I take them too, they would rather just stay at the farm and me stay too.

    1. My trees are so old and have been damaged big time 5 years ago.
I need to bring out the main tree surgeon again in the spring. I will water them
      extra tomorrow,

  4. That Gyudon looks scrum-deli-icious. I've never had it before, but it looks good enough to eat! I love the bright colors, too.

I hope you don't get too much of that wintry weather. It's in the sixties again today, and supposed to top seventy tomorrow. (My kinda winter!)

    1. It was 70 yesterday and dropped 30 degrees today as the storm blew in.
3 day from now it will warm up again.

  5. Beautiful sky shots. The meal looks good, though I have no idea if those peppers are hot ones.

but they are really so good.

  6. Beautiful photos as always. Your bowl looks good even though I'm not much of an adventurous eater. Stay warm, you and the Hamish.

  8. I have always had hairy dogs and they have not been allowed on furniture until they are getting old and we need to cuddle even more. The setter is about eight and I'm thinking it's almost time as I am finding it more difficult to get down on the floor to be with him! the hamish on the jacket was such a 'bury your nose in my fur' photo.

But mine can get up on the furniture because I can not get down on the floor either.

  10. Oh yum, your gyudon looks super delicious! Shishito must bring a nice accent :-)
thehamish is so adorable curled up on the jacket. Whenever I put my hanten jacket on a floor, Goro comes to hide under it.

  11. Sam hated moving, too. He always got agitated when we brought empty boxes home, because he knew what it meant. Collin said our bird, who hated change, had found himself in a traveling circus!

Love your photos. How does your daughter like living in Illinois?
