My Wednesday post about my life in Japan. . .
A quick early morning breakfast bought at the local quick mart before
taking off on a day of sightseeing.
Since it was summer. . .
The best iced coffee ever !
A rice ball (triangle), pull the top red tab down, pull tabs 2 and 3
out the sides and the wrapper magical falls away, the seaweed wraps
around the rice and filling. Commence crunchy eating.
Small bento box, filled with tamago, sweet egg omelet, Karaage,
Japanese fried chicken, two small rice balls the one on the left is
tuna and the one on the right is umeboshi, pickled plum.
The extra are hashi, chopsticks and much need band-aids !
Small pleasures ! Thanks mollybot for tasty photo ! I was too busy
eating Cha Siu Bao a warm, steamed, light as air pork bun, Heaven !
chomping. . . parsnip
music. . . Nausicaa, Valley of the Wind, Joe Hisaishi

Band-aids. Usually my best friend while traveling :) (and aspirin).
ReplyDeleteOh yum!
ReplyDeleteHaha I love that you love this picture!
ReplyDeleteIn the bento, I wish the riceball on the right (under the label) was umeboshi, I think it was filled with Hijiki, a stringy black seaweed seasoned with a lot of soy and sugar. Still interesting though!

ReplyDeleteI have learned, especially in Japan where you walk everywhere, to leave fashion at the door and I wear the ugliest but most comfortable shoes I can find.!

so well said !
mollybot...
Mine had umeboshi, but some of the seaweed I am not that crazy about, especially when it has too much sugar and soy.
Thanks for the photo, good times good times !
Small pleasures are the best pleasures.
ReplyDeleteOne loves bento boxes.
ReplyDeletePork bun and pickled plum - thank goodness I have my P's back:)
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the band aids are for? Nothing life threatening I hope.
What a fascinating take on breakfast--
ReplyDeleteso different all over the world.
I'm not sure if I'm ready for a bento box
but maybe things are place specific
for example I always have a cream doughnut in Italy which
I wouldn't dream of in the US!!
Happy weekend.
Carol...
ReplyDeleteSo true. Hey how is the wedding going ? smoothly I hope.
Laoch...

I don't really don't like a lot of "breakfast" food. Can't handle the milk with cold cereal, like pancakes/waffles but not always, eggs are fine but not everyday. I like leftovers or the Japanese style of rice and fish or vegetables.
I save the sweet for my break with a coffee or like you when your out and about.
