My Monday post about what is going on around my home....
Two Roadrunners that have been zooming around my home.
Sorry the photo is somewhat blurry but they always seen to know when I
am trying to take their photo and then they move, cheeky little devils.
Plus my camera decided to focus on the tree.
I adore the stylish blue legs ! I know when they are young they have
a patch of blue skin by their eyes that becomes white when they get
older but the blue legs I have not seen before.
Some things I love about roadrunners. . .
They belong to the Cuckoo family
When they run they flatten out like an arrow
They eat all sorts of small reptiles including my most despised
scorpions and rattlesnakes
Can run at speeds up to 25 mph and you will see them racing down the
road in front of a car before zooming off to the side.
An old frontier tale was they would lead lost travelers to trails.
The Hopi believe the Roadrunner protects against evil spirits, I am
so glad I have them cruising around my home as I need all the help I
can get !
Beep Beep !
I am such a fan of cartoon The Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote and I
loved the ideas that Wile came up with to catch the Roadrunner !
zooming. . . parsnip
music. . . Ride Like The Wind, Cafe Carlyle Sessions, Christopher
Cross
update... the fires are still burning and some progress on the Murphy fire, and Horseshoe 2 fire. Wallow is still growing and if you can believe it someone just started a fire near Serra Vista.
Hello:
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful birds which we have not seen previously and which are clearly surrounded with all kinds of folklore. Like you, we think their blue legs are amazing.
We should certainly welcome them close to our home too!
I always said Meep Meep! Somewhat devastated to find out I can't speak Roadrunner after all, but brilliant to see the picture.
ReplyDeleteAnd all the best to everyone with the fires.
They look great characters!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the roadrunner cartoons, too. Good to see what one finally looks like.
ReplyDeleteMeep meep!!
ReplyDeleteAlways a fan of the roadrunner and coyote cartoons...these two look like real fine ones.
There's the roadrunners...but where are the coyotes?
ReplyDeleteVery cool birds. I think it's a great picture.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteHow fantastic to get two in a picture. I like how one has head crest up and the other down. I never noticed blue legs before...very cool!
ReplyDeleteFascinating birds to watch. You have so much to look at it must be difficult to get work done;)
ReplyDeleteJane and Lance....
ReplyDeleteI love knowing the history/folk lore behind something. I think the help finding lost travelers fine a trail is so lovely.
Titus...
The reason why I thought he said Beep Beep is that on one toon he holds up a sign that said Beep Beep.
But it could all be a dream I had who knows ?
Dartford Warbler
Oh they are and very engaging.
Kirk...
I loved the Roadrunners and Coyote along with Pepe Le Pew... oh the poor kitty in those toons !
William...
I tought Meep Meep was the funny like dog like animal in the Popeye toons that said meep meep ?
Norma...
They have adapted... why cash when you can eat from the garbage cans. Sometimes I have to look twice when I see a dog walking down the street because it is a coyote.
Carole...
Growing up in Arizona I always loved seeing the Roadrunners... and yes you do see them running along the roads. Not so much any more now too many people but I live in the foothills so I get to see so much more wildlife.
Laoch...
They are very beautiful birds the pattern of the feathers is beautiful.
Diane Az...
For years I only saw one... but I have been seeing these two hanging around and I am so happy ! I hope it is trw lurv and I get to see some younglings.
Roadrunners are the stuff of myth here, for me at least, so any photo is a great photo and this one seems to capture their energy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for babies: how cute would that be?!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed, also, that no one else is stupid enough to start yet another fire, and the ones still going are able to be contained until something comes along to put them out.
WOW! Very interesting!
