Parley View Parsnip. . . Christmas lights.

I mentioned in a blog last week that we were putting up some Christmas lights.
Not the all out crazy light show that many homes have
but just a few lights to enjoy the Holidays.
.
There are other home around me but the landscape is very natural and rural.
Small one way streets that follow the hills and valleys. No sidewalks or street lights.
It is very dark around our homes especially in winter.
That is why I keep a few of these fairy lights up all year.
I live on a hill my home is enveloped in darkness.

What the front of my home looks like from the half way down my long driveway.
If I went all the way down (goodness it is dark) there is a curve and you look 
through the forest of Paloverde trees to my front door.  That now have Christmas lights
very prettily twinkling  through.
You can see my home better from across the valley or down the street.

The  U.S. Post Office puts out such lovely stamps every year and especially
the ones for Christmas.
And this year is no exception, I was tempted.
But I ordered The Square Ones again this year.

 thehamish errrr  The Square Ones would be very disappointed
if he/they were not on the Christmas stamp.

A crazy freezing cold front has dropped down from Canada.
Covering most of the U.S. in rain, ice and way too much snow.
Huge amounts of snow !
In Tucson we are 10 degrees colder than normal.
We had our first freeze last night, a month early.

 Be safe, keep warm and if you can, find a moment to enjoy the day.

Wednesday In Japan. . . Japanese Christmas Cards

Japanese Christmas Cards are wonderful !

They take a different cultural look at the holiday season.
Beautiful, clever, funny, pop-up and usually musical.
Often it involves Santa lots of Santas everywhere.
Over the years son has sent me wonderful cards that I set out every year.
Here are a few photos from last year.

Santa and woodland animals are sitting in front of a Christmas tree.
Push the button on the right and blue light travel down the tree
and three Christmas song play in a row.
It is my favorite and it has lasted for 7 years.

The same year he sent me this one. He thought I need two great cards.
This one the tree lights blink and 3 Santa twirl, there are 14 Santas plus reindeers in the snow.
Son wrote me,
" be thankful you don't have a crazy kid around to press the play button non-stop like me"
The card plays 12 songs.
.

This one doesn't play music or light up.
 It is a three layer that pop-out.
The scene is of Osaka and has 75 tiny Santas running around.

Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is in full swing
at my home.
No tree yet but soon.
.
Most of my lights outside are up but need some tweaking.
I live in an rural area with other homes but with no street lights.
I rather like that and so do all the wild critters that live here too.
But it does gets very dark at my home,
so all year long I have white lights in the front and back yard.
Not a lot but a few here and there to break up all the dark.

I had a Pack Rat invasion. They stormed the front and back yard.
There were many battles.
They won ! 
They chewed through many of the string lights
and  I am now replacing quite a few this week.
You would think it would give the little crazies enough of an electrical  shock
when they chewed the wires but it seems not to matter to them.

Trying to finish my Christmas card, and some notes cards
that I must get to the quick printers Monday.
.
If your not tired of Thanksgiving food here are a few photos.
The photo of my plate of food and dinner table was blurry
so you only get to see the leftovers !

I love this "Bento Box" of leftovers daughter put together.
Isn't it cute ?
Horseradish mashed potatoes, shaved Brussels Sprouts, Corn Pudding
and of course Dressing.

Turkey Roulade, the easiest way to cook a turkey.
Butterfly a turkey breast, put some dressing on top, roll it up and two hours later
WaaaaLaa dinner !

I don't know how The Square Ones will take it when I move the daybed back
and rip out this fireplace (I have 5)  for shelves.
I need more space for my books in the studio 
They have claimed it as "the gud dug place to sleep"
and will miss it when it is gone.
